    PB2 timing?

I brewed a stout last week with an OG of 1.050. I want to add some PB2 to it but wondering if I should wait til fermentation is completely done or toss it in now. Seems to be still actively fermenting, krausen just started falling yesterday. Also any tips on how much, how to add it, etc would...

    What did I just make?

So I brewed a great big stout this weekend and only had to use about a half gallon of my sparge water (batch sparge) to get to my boil volume. So once that beer was in the carboy starting it's journey, I ran off enough enough of the wort to do another boil...which was totally unplanned. I'm not...

    thought on hop spiders?

What are people thoughts on hop spiders? I usually do IPAs that involve quite a bit of hops...about 10 ounces on my last batch. I do 5 gallon all grain batches boiled in a 10 gallon pot. Normally I use 100% pellet hops but on occasion will use whole leaf for part of the hop bill. I've read a...

    whole cone hop issue

I have an IPA on day ten of fermentation right now and I have a bit of a dilemma. I used a good bit of whole hops in the boil/ whirl pool and was not smart enough to use a bag. So now I have carboy full of beer and that has a 1" thick layer of hops floating on top. I want to dry hop this (w/...

    Enough head space??

Brewed an Irish red today and hit about 1.055 OG, got just a smidge over 5 gal into the 5 gal carboy plus about 6 oz of rehydrated dry yeast. There's not much headspace here...I have a blow off tube but it's one of the wimpy little ones. Never used one like this before, I always use a large...

How cold is too cold for keg?

I got a keg set up for Christmas and recently kegged up an Irish red ale (6.4% abv)on Monday. I wont have my fridge until at least next weekend and then it will take a bit of time to set up. I've been storing this keg in the pantry with the co2 tank hooked up set at 12 psi. My question is...

    Irish...orange ale? Efficiency??

Put together this recipe aiming for an Irish red ale ...its not as red as I intended. The app I use to build my recipes and track brew days is pretty awesome (Biermacht) , and it has a handy little color estimator Exhibit A: My beer however has turned out considerably less red than...

    Grain storage??

I had a bag of left over grains from when I put together a beer a couple months ago and its just been sitting in the spare room forgotten about since mid June. They've been in a sealed bag and my house stays a pretty even 68-70 degrees. There may have been some sun exposure through the blinds...

How long does a typical Irish red ale have to age? I wanna brew up something this weekend that will be ready to serve by St Patties day but I'm concerned that I may not have the time. I do extract and bottle condition and I'm looking at dipping a toe into partial mash soon. Do I have...
