It always has been a session beer. All traditional stouts are considered session beers. The porter is the big daddy to the stout. The name stout is a misnomer. It's not that stout compared to the porter.

Best splained via football.

Offensive line - Ales

Quarterback = Stout
Half Back = Extra Special bitter
Full Back = Porter/Robust Porter
Tite End = Brown ale
Wide Receiver = Mild Ale
Center = Barleywine/Quad/Triple
Guard = Scotch Strong Ale/Dubbel
Tackle = Old Ale/Strong Ale


Defensive line. - Lagers

End = Doppel Bock
Tackle = Triple Bock
Middle Linebacker = Maibock/Helles Bock
Linebacker = Traditional Bock
Corners = Pilsner/Weizenbock
Safety = Marzen/Oktoberfest

What'd you got for press coverage? Corners are too far back..

I wish I was at a point in my brewing where I thought I could pull one of those off. A coconut RIS sounds pretty tasty
9-10% Base RIS are easy. No real difference then a 5-6%er except more yeast and ensuring oxygenation at the start. Coconut was a combo of fresh in secondary and extract. Surprisingly it went from overwhelming to "Where's the Beef?" in a week?? 12-14%ers require extra steps tho.

Rock'en and Roll'en with the 1st Fermentasaurous/new chest freezer cold crash method. I'm calling it a major success! Not the diacetyl/oxidized/harsh taste of my other attempts. It's nothing I would share because I was looking at proof-of-concept (no boil/less then usual hops)....but maybe round 2??

I just started cutting down my temperature controller 5° every 12 hours on my Oktoberfest to begin lagering. I'm planning to Keg it once it gets down and throw it in my kegerator for around 6 weeks

I didn't do a traditional lager method for this one so that could explain it. Mines been kegged for about a month but I just fermented in mid 60's like I would an ale. Still tastes pretty good though.
