    no hop flavor

i brewed my first batch in about 9 months and just tasted a bottle of it that has conditioned for 2 weeks. I seem to keep having the same issue with my beers. not sure if its recipe construction. or sanitation or what. I use beersmith and follow that to a tee. maybe I don't have my equipment...

    vigorous fermentation

just a curious question. hadnt brewed in about a year or so. last 2 batches have been about 2.5 to 3 gallon batches. mostly all grain with a 1lb of DME added. theyve both fermented in a 5 gallon bucket. the airlock has been going crazy on both brews with the liquid bubbling out of the top of...

best time to drink commercial beer

wasnt sure how to title this but just had a question i would throw out there. great lakes conways irish ale for example is already out in stores. now im guessing its a beer geared towards st patricks day. i know if i bought it off the shelf today it would taste good but do you guys wait at...

    caribou slobber problems

i think im just not meant to make a good batch of this beer haha. the first time i made it. i entered in the all grain recipe from northern brewer into beer smith. scaled down to a size i can use on my equipment. That one i messed up from bottling with too high of a FG. so my bad attempted a...

    mash temps

so ive been doing BIAB batches lately. Heat to strike temp, add grains. stir and cover. check 10 minutes later just to see again. my question is using the thermometer i have, i noticed that when i put the thermometer in the BIAB bag of grain. i get say 152 for example. but when i put it...

    orange/lemon peel usage

maybe a dumb question. got an extract kit as a wedding gift. was a wheat beer. i actually used all the ingredients for different beers. i still have a spice pack of orange peel and lemon peel. are there any other uses for these ingredients besides a wheat beer. i feel like ive heard of...

    Efficiency question

I've done about 8 brews now. Mostly doing BIAB with a little dme to top off. I've never taken a pre boil gravity. My question is if I'm hitting my OG and FG or pretty close to it. What is the point of worrying about efficiency?

bottled before final fg now over carbed

ive done a few batches but would not consider myself a pro. did a BIAB caribou slobber clone a few weeks back. hit the OG if anything a little high for what it called for. but when i bottled the FG was reading around 1.028. still being a noob i bottled away but thought that seemed awfully...

    Mouthfeel question

this may be somewhat of a noob question as ive only done about 4 Biab's. All stove top and end up with 3 gallon to the fermenter. my pot can hold about up to 7 lbs of grain before spilling over. my question is that ive made an oktoberfast, pale ale, ipa, heff. which i guess are all beers that...

    done fermenting in a day?

hey there. probably on my 4th BIAB batch. did an all grain caribou slobber. i have never used danstar windsor ale yeast. the foam or krausen? that is usually at the top has already dropped out in 24 hours. is this just the yeast working its magic? i always ferment for at least 2 weeks and...

    Foam after pouring

Kind of an odd question. I've only done a few brews and have bottled all of them. I have not used a priming sugar calculator. I've just use the whole 5 ounce package. When it comes the bottling day. So my question is when I pour from the bottle some of the foam almost clumps up or doesn't...

    OG Reading question

somewhat noob question. I have a theif that i put the liquid into a big test tube for getting my OG after the boil. When i put the hydrometer in there is usually an inch or 2 of trub that eventually settles to the bottom. Should i filter this out before i take a reading. the hydrometer seems...

    BIAB and fermentation

pretty new to brewing. a 5 gallon and 2-1 extract gallon batches. over reacted/ did something wrong on each of them. so quick question attempted my first BIAB a few weeks ago. hit temps right when mashing and if anything got a little to warm. when it came to yeast though. i may have messed...

    first 3 brews all bad

so as the title reads ive only made 3 brews so far. my first was a 5 gallon extract. on that my fermentation temps were too warm so that was my bad. but i just made 2-1 gallon extract kits. (caribou slobber and dead ringer). followed everything to tee. fermented at correct temperatures...

    tasting of my first batch

so i brewed and everything went perfect. come to find out i fermented for the first few days at 70-75 degrees when i should have been 60-65. but after about 2-3 days. the rest of the time was proper temp. so i knew i would have some strong flavors. bottled and tried one after a week. was...
