Except that is not at all true. Cuvee Rene demand is at an all-time high. Lindemans is expanding because of how much demand there it is for their unsweetened products...

Now if only Girardin and Tilquin would ramp up their USA distribution to compensate for them asking Belgian sellers to stop exporting... Yeah, I'm not holding my breath.
Give me "The meaning of local" for 500 Alex!

I respect Tilquin and Girardin for not wanting their bottles to be sold on Belgian webshops sending to America. I actually commend them for it. Girardin hasn't been easy to get here for a long, long time and the fact that Tilquin sends so much ofh is product to the US already is amazing. In March of 2015 the newspaper La Capitale reported that 75% of Gueuzerie Tilquin's production was reserved for export with 40% of that being sent solely to the United States.

So great when you've got a risky late January box inbound but the Chicago weather is unusually mild. Cheers to you El Niño.

God damn it, of course BIAB has to put up a lambic package with Ohrwal. I just told myself not to spend anymore money on lambic, well that just **** up that idea, there goes another 300 American.
Crap, you suckered me in. I've been wanting to try Ohrwal for awhile, plus you throw in a couple Cantillons and the rest are beers I've never had before. Usually I can talk myself out of it. This time however...

I cannot stand when they create those "tasting packages"
Everyone wants these 2-4 "Insert beer names here"
now lets add in 6-10 beers that we cannot move and call it tasting favorites

Agreed in general but in this case I actually want/like everything in the package except the faro, which whatever, I'll drink it. Reninge and Reuss etc may not be good sellers but I really love them. This is the first one of these deals I've sprung for, it feels like a pretty good deal.

Exactly how I felt as the lower end stuff I ever have enjoyed before or never tried and kinda want to even the faro.

I feel I need to point out that this sales strategy wouldn't work (and it totally works, of course) if US neckbeards in particular were less kray-kray about .rar lambic.

You guys should know about how a free market works. If you don't like the product on offer, don't buy it.

never have likely never will

I think I would be madder if there were no cork.
Lol....this was actually the third TCA infected bottle of cantillon I've opened in the last 6 months. I've always thought they could spend the extra 10 or 20 cents per and just use better corks but whatever.

If I didn't have an Ohrwal I'd probably buy that package and hate myself for it. Did he do a new batch or did BIAB somehow track down enough to offer multiple bottles? I was under the impression that there were only a couple hundred bottles of it.

Was wondering that myself if it's the same batch. If it's new I'll let you know when it arrives and compare to the other I got from Kurt a while back.

It looks like this will be the first of several Uli releases available via BiaB. Kurt said something about working out a deal with Uli to "distribute" his beers to us neckbeards.

Interesting, I wonder if he will be selling his private stuff as the others that appeared on BiaB have all been the Collabs he did (freigeist & brauart). I can't imagine Uli has the rights to distribute the collab bottles, though he might have some say in it.

I trust that you have better info and can enlighten us of your sources, but the quote that went around from Lindemans when they announced the expansion was:

“Several years ago, we sold much more filtered gueuze. Now, we see a change in people’s tastes, as people are asking more and more for our sour Cuvée René Oude Gueuze. We sell more of the Cuvée René now.”

If you ever need help rationalizing your lambic spending, The Red Viper is your man.

Last night some friends and I did a pretty interesting blind geuze tasting. MayorBieber was kind enough to pour everything, so the remainder of us were truly blind. The bottles were poured sequentially, and roughly 375mL was poured each round - this allowed us to re-visit the bottles after tasting them blind, and it also allowed the Hanssens to remain blind. We had lots of water, some bread and a fairly mellow brie on hand to cut the acidity and keep our palates fresh. Attendees ranged from casually interested in drinking lambic to unhealthily obsessed with it.

The results were really interesting. I was able to correctly identify the Tilquin, Girardin, Cuvee Rene, and Hanssens. I did not identify 3F which really surprised me, nor was I able to correctly identify either Cantillon bottle. These are the bottles we opened, ordered from left to right in order of my favorite to least favorite:

The 3F was the top rated and ranked beer for the group. Here is the data from the tasting if you want to see more detailed information about the group's average rankings and ratings, as well as some common notes. Overall, this was a really fun tasting that was pretty eye-opening to me. I was surprised by how low I ranked 3F and De Cam, and how different the two Cantillon bottles scored. I also suspect that the Lambickx wouldn't do as well if it were in the middle of the tasting order rather than the first bottle.

Picked up a bottle of cuvee rene at local bottle shop last night. Anyone else have trouble getting the cork out? Had to eventually push the cork through and then strain the peices of cork that came off.

And then the beer wasn't worth all that trouble. High carb but little funk. Virtually no sour taste and very honestly pretty bland and watery. I wasn't a fan. I picked up a couple bottles so i'll see how it tastes over the years.
