This is the place to discuss all things Lambic. callmemickey has put together a great resource to reference HERE. This thread is aimed at discussing your love for lambics/geuzes, posting pictures, sharing stories, etc.

I'll start.

This was the best beer I have ever had

I am strongly in the Drie Fonteinen Geuze camp. I think they're the best overall.



And Tilquin sucks. Don't buy any. Send it all to myself or MordorMongo for proper consumption disposal

I like lambic, though my wallet does not. Recently had my best lambic-centric day yet at Spuyten on Zwanze Day.

I did enjoy Zwanze, but it was definitely my least favorite Cantillon of the day. Fou Foune and LP Kriek blew my mind.

I love lambic. Over the summer I designed and built special shelves to hold my lambic on its side while still being earthquake-proof (this is a bit old, they're considerably fuller now):

(Ignore all the Bruery stuff in there, I just buy too much of that).

i am strongly (and lonesomely) in the cantillon gueuze camp, and i don't really like tilquin. my favorite gueuze is probably crianza helena. i haven't yet had blauw, but i will soon!

I don't remember if I asked this on BA, but why angled downward rather than upward or flat? Any particular reason? Never seen that before.

My favorite to date has been the De Cams Oude Lambiek. But now that I finally have a trade set up for Blaeber, I expect that to change.

Because the geometry is such that it has to be angled downward. I don't think it actually matters so I do what's easy, doing anything else would have been difficult.

Gotcha. My thought was just that the lees would then settle in the elbow/neck which is probably not ideal, but now that I look at it it's probably not actually angled that much.

i prefer the lemon/citrus 'bright' flavors to the cheesy funky flavors.

I opened up an Oude Lambiek from 2003 a couple months ago that was absolutely delicious. It was flat, but it didn't detract from it at all. It was so damn funky.

I hate to agree with this... but I do. Blabaer was something nice to try at a tasting, but I would never trade for it. Especially considering what it takes to get one.

1. Put fruit in your glass, pour gueuze over fruit, let sit, then consume happily
2. Age for 10 years
3. Blend with your favorite citrus-forward IPA to taste
4. Reluctantly drink when you're low on 3F and Tilquin
5. Tell backfat it's better than Hanssens

Yeah I don't think that would happen, but I'm not super concerned about it.

Agreed - I gave up too much to get one, but it was fun to have as a centerpiece for a massive sour tasting I held about a year ago. I'd take FF, LPF, LPK, St Lam all over it easily.

The lambiek special is probably in my top 5 lambics. If it was 'rarer' people would shell out serious monies for it. I havent ordered the framboise but really need to get on that...

Has anyone tried the OWA lambics? The cherry blossom one sounds pretty interesting.

I was considering snatching some on my last euro order, but they got pretty bad reviews on RB. Still wanna try the yuzu though.

I think for 10 months out of the year, lambics (or similar styles) are my favorite style. The other two months, I like big ole stouts and porters, but lambics are a close second.

Anyone else get wicked (sometimes painful) hiccups when enjoying these fine, Belgian treats? Sometimes, a well-timed Tums helps. But **** sake, sometimes I feel like I need to go to the hospital.

Homebrewed lambic (pic taken over a year ago). With Ranier cherries and blueberries, which is why I think it's so dark. Hopefully bottling it sometime early 2014.

My usual lambic shopping pattern:
1. Add nice mix of lambics to biab cart
2. Add 6 lambiek specials
3. delete all lambics but lambiek special
4. add 4 more lambiek specials
5. close tab and drink a Tilquin

I had one sometime recently that was pretty off. I agree in general that De Cam is underrated (probably because it doesn't get any US distro), but I've had more "what the hell went wrong here?" De Cam bottles than any other lambic producer, despite drinking way less of them.

Man that's too bad. I've had it 3-4 times in the past 6 months (thanks Totoropanda and GrumpyOldTroll ) and it's always shocked and delighted me. Consistency and longevity might not be De Cam's strong suit though. The 2000 Oude Geuze we had recently was pretty bland.
