Can someone confirm this 5 year thing? I think the 2011 GB Etre had up recently was also described by them as having 5 year lambic in the blend which makes me very skeptical...

i doubt it, someone here definitely would have said something and i don't remember seeing it on that listing.

I've never heard of any five year lambic being in Golden Blend and there has only been one bottling two bottlings released so I would take that rumor with a grain of salt.

Edit: Well... that's interesting. Had no idea there was a new bottling.

The 2014 that's for sale is obviously a new bottling, so make that two. But yeah, I'm doubting there's really 5 year lambic.

Whoa. I didn't even see that there was another release of it. That's awesome. Will ask next week when there about the 5yr thing then. And likely drink some.

Pretty sure I noticed that too, which is different from what's on lambic.info.

Why doubts that there's 5 year Lambic? From any blend there will be leftover casks of some vintages. When the next blend happens casks appropriate age will be ready for use, so what happens to a couple leftover casks of 3 year lambic? Some could be worked in to regular gueuze blends to use the stock, but that could take a while. It makes more sense to save them for special blends, IMO. I really don't think anything that happens in Lambic making is quite as strict as people seem to think.

The reason I'm skeptical is because a week or so ago Etre put up a few bottles of the 2011 Golden Blend...and their description for that release was exactly the same as their description for the new one, including the note about 5 year lambic. The 2011 almost certainly did not have 5 year lambic--the labels didn't say so, lambic.info doesn't say so, nobody has ever said so to my knowledge except Etre. Which makes me think it was a mistake, which they've copied again for this release.

One possibility though is that they already had the new blend when they put the old one up, and had seen that the new blend had 5 year, which is why they made the mistake with the old blend. If that's the case, awesome. I just kindof doubt it until I see other evidence...

We just haven't had a chance to update yet. That's definitely new information to me/us. I'm working on getting the page updated at the moment.

Was actually thinking there's a better chance that lambic.info is correct.

The description on the 2011 bottle is exactly what's up there for the 2014, so who knows?

Edit: and what he^ said.

Not only did it say 5 year when he had it up just the other day, when he has had 2011 GB in the past his description has said 5 years which I have only ever seen on etre.

I always just assumed he was wrong given the bottle description etc.

Either way, I'm about to spend a lot of money I don't really have, and figure out the consequences sometime later.

1. can someone find out if this is carbed? Should be.

2. the 5 year lambic is a misprint likely. Etre did the same thing with 2011 GB if I remember correctly, and never fixed it.

Oh, I see. That's a shame, I'd love to try a blend with some 5 year in it just out of curiosity. Makes me really wonder what happens to leftover casks from each vintage. He has to work them in somehow...

Ok, so I just checked in with a contact who could help clear this up. This round of Golden Blend is comprised of 4 brewing seasons worth of lambic (like the previous batch), the oldest of which was between four and five years of age (in terms of days old) at the time of blending/bottling. So yeah, the whole 1,2,3 "years old" (and 4 in this case) is relative, as always.

15€? Is that a "you crazy Americans" markup, or is that really how much it's going for?

I'm guessing a bit of the former. If I remember correctly, both the first batch of Golden Blend and then Golden Doesjel were just under 10€. So I'm guessing a more reasonable shelf price in Belgium would be like 12€ maybe. Either way, 15€ plus shipping is still significantly cheaper than what it will cost on U.S. shelves (~$21 after shipping compared to probably closer to $30 after tax).

^ This. The last batch of Golden Blend was 9-10 euros on Etre. But I'd rather pay 15 euros than $27 plus tax locally (assuming it's even be easy to find on shelves this time around).
