Not that I need to tell you guys, but
Timmush is an awesome person, and Conclave makes amazing beers. The batch of Gravitational Waves thats on right now is so god damn good, and Shamanic Revelation was right there with it. I grabbed a growler of Shamanic to drink tomorrow (hopefully with
axeman9182), and I can't ******* wait to pop it. Also, Mexican Morning continues to be a beer that I love, and I pray to Jobu that there's a second batch of BAMM! at some point in the future.
Troon has a weird setup. So you can head into the Brick Farm Tavern for food and pours of Troon beers, then get growler fills elsewhere. They also have some other, non-Troon beers on, as well as a full service bar. I didn't eat there, but the menu looks great, and word of mouth is strong, so I'm excited to visit again in the near future. The brewery itself is in a completely separate building set further back on the property. That's where you can get growler fills, and, I assume, a very small sample of beer before getting a fill if need be. But everything he had for fills was on in the restaurant. The brewer, Alex, is a really nice, laid back guy. I enjoyed chatting with him very much while he filled my growler. Oh yeah, and the beers were *******
awesome. The IPA he had was far and away my favorite (grabbed a fill of that, which I also hope to pop tomorrow with
axeman9182), but the two pale ales were a very close second. I guess they had a DIPA on which kicked before we got there, but Alex told me it should be back on shortly. I really can't recommend this place enough.
After that, we hit The Referend. Holy ****. Like, guys. Holy. ****. I can't believe this place exists in New Jersey. The space is just enormous. Everything
Jspriest had was fantastic, and from what he and his wonderful staff told us (Melissa in particular, who gave us a very nice tour), the future is bright. Berliner Messe and Jung, in all of their iterations, are beers I could (and someday hope to) drink a lot of. I feel like these guys are doing something special, and I really look forward to checking in on them again soon.
We ended the trip with some Bent Spoon. The aromatic citrus sorbet was intense, but delicious, though I think I ultimately preferred my scoop of sweet potato and marshmallow. The non-dairy hot chocolate was also very tasty, and the honey vanilla marshie was a nice touch.
So yeah, today was a good day. I strongly urge anyone to take the trip out to these places. You will not regret it.
