Good afternoon/morning fellow brewers, I am very new to this group and fairly new to brewing. With some friends we have done around 5 brewing sessions and have gotten progressively better results. We brewed IPA, Kolsch and white beer. We are using the Brew Monk B40 boiler.

However, I would like to ask for your feedback on several things that we are struggeling with;
  • We feel the taste is good at first, but becomes a bit light after the initial taste. A bit “watery”. What can we do to get a more round taste profile?
  • We lose quite a bit of volume during boiling – we start with 20L before boiling, and then we end up having max 16L-17L once we transferred into the fermentation bucket. We tried adding water during the boiling, which helped. Still we don’t succeed in getting the wort into the fermentation completely.
  • During the different temperature stages in the mashing, our machine often overshoots the target temperature by 5 degrees. We tried turning down the power from 2400W to 1500W. Could this have a serious impact on the quality of the beer.
If you have any tips or good recipes for starters, please let me know!

Have a good Sunday!

Maarten
