It's not just the food you're paying for, it's the overall experience. Dinner usually takes 3+ hours and you get a whole bunch of small plates. It's certainly not something that I would expect everyone to enjoy, but my wife and I love it and will definitely budget for it.
Exactly my thoughts! You pay for the experience, just like people paying hundreds for sporting events or concerts. Haven't had the chance to visit TFL but I ate at Bouchon across the street and it was fantastic. Congrats on the anniversary!

being from the midwest, it's an affront to pay more than $10 for enough food to feed an entire neighborhood. when i go sit down at a place for dinner, i expect to walk away with a week's worth of leftovers for under $8.

this has nothing to do with why we're fat

not that anybody here gives half a **** about ratebeer (I certainly don’t), but this is still… not a headline I would’ve ever predicted

One of my friends who passed a few years back was a RateBeer admin.... and he is probably doing ******* helicopter flips in his grave right now (he was GM at a craft brewery/bar for his day job and despised AB)

hated their boards but they really were a better alternative before TB... interesting though

I don't know whether you mean in terms of the forum software and its configuration, or the overwhelming lack of fresh content, though both are fair criticisms. But I will say that I found their forums quite helpful before travelling to Israel and trying to get information on the local craft beer scene. Whereas BA and TB seem to have zero Israeli members who are active, RB has a few, including one admin I believe. And I'm sure what was true for Israel would prove true for a number of other countries. RB's strong international inclination meant that if you were patient and found the right people, you could get far more info about the beer scenes in less popular and less beer-oriented countries than you'd get here or on BA.

The forum layouts... more recently, the lack of activity... the content, posters, and reviews were solid. I actually have(?) a lot of respect for RB.

BA was just formatted with more updated software and made it more attractive.

And then we have TB... I don't want to bash the other sites and we're not perfect here, but I think out path looks bright. Perhaps not in a business or popularity sense, but I think we got a good thing going here. We got a balance and best of both worlds

TB is definitely the most fun, and is the only one whose forums I find enjoyable to use on a regular basis. The one thing that keeps it from being a sufficient replacement is that it is just a forum. There is no review database, which even in the era of Untappd, is something I for one enjoy.

Beer reviews are dead to me, most of the times it is just #newmoney reviews "juicebomb, so hazy, much whalez" it drives me up a wall. I'm more inclined to see what's posted on the DDT threads for recommendations.

Now that I'm off work and can type...

This little story should concern craft drinkers as much, if not more, than the Wicked Weed buyout, though it certainly won't get the same press.

That article Sage linked also noted (either I had forgotten or wasn't aware...) the ABI stake in Northern Brewer.

Anyone still on the fence about ABI having a rather fleshed out grand plan as it comes to beer... and craft beer?

Anyone still think they're just buying a few brands to make a few bucks off craft?

Anyone OK with ABI not only having it's long fingers and dollars all over beer, but also getting into the actual information about beer?

I'm thinking some younger drinkers who love BCBS are gonna be in hog heaven in 5 or 10 years. BCBS year round. In all markets.
US and overseas.

I know this old drinker will be happier than a hog in slop if that were to happen.

That would be terrible; not because I have anything in particular against BCBS and its variants, but because competition for barrels of remotely decent quality is already scarce, and this would have brutal consequences on barrel availability for craft beer. That isn't to say AB-I would or should give a ****, but I value a variety of barrel aged beers far more than I do more BCBS.

Actually, wait.

Been thinking.

Josh might actually want to be worried. I mean, no matter how you cut it, BCBS is inherently limited by amounts of bourbon barrels, time, etc. Sure, ABI can increase that, but only to such an extent.

And here's the thing.

How much you think beer drinkers in England would pay for a bottle of BCBS? France? Spain? Belgium? Think consumers in those markets would happily pay more for a bottle of BCBS than their US counterparts?

Wonder how much craft beer drinkers in Japan would pay for single bottles of BCBS...

Should be plenty of leftover glasses after the party, I'll save you one. Anyone else who wants one can likewise get one for C+S or whatever.

If you meant the beer, I can probably fill some growlers. :)

Just saying. You made your own birthday glassware - someone should have a self awemess alarm that goes off once and again.

Then again, you made your own glassware and thought others might wanna buy it from you. JulianB your bollocks are big, i am impressed and horrified in equal parts

They go for about €30 over here.

It was actually suggested by one of my friends, I hadn't considered it but everyone here was amped about the idea. Also not the first time I've commissioned glassware for a birthday party share, although the first time was the DickButt glass trickytunadicky and Gonzoillini's party in 2015.

I can't remember if this was right before or right after the buyout but year round BCBS was actually heavily rumored or even announced at one time.

Let's put that on the pile with 6-packs of Founders Breakfast Stout on the market for the same price as a 4-pack.

Lutter, I've heard that one as well here and there. Whatever they do with it, it will be geared towards pushing other similar things off the market.

I had also thought I HAD heard as well that small amounts of BCBS had made it abroad. With the price Saind noted... With that margin alone... I bet execs at ABI would just love to see that gross profit margin hit triple digits. Just for ****'s and giggles.

Send half the BCBS to euro markets. Pay for executive cruise.
