Just a happy accident of timing, and you were one of the beneficiaries!
I'm not generally one to geek out over special beer releases, or anything involving waiting in lines, or where there are huge crowds. Because... I hate people. So even though there have been PtY events nearby here in Orange County, I've never actually tried the beer since I don't like those types of events.
But Mrs Blonde and I had already planned to head up to Sonoma and Napa to celebrate our anniversary. I'm a beer drinker who [sometimes] drinks wine, and she's a wine drinker who [sometimes] drinks beer, so every time we're going to be in Sonoma, a visit to Russian River Brewing is in the cards. We were staying in Healdsburg, and we'd never been to their new Windsor brewery/tasting room which was nearby, so we planned to go visit.
Well, then we looked at the web site, and realized it was the PtY release event which lasts ~2 weeks or so, and our trip was right in the middle of it. It *said* that the Windsor location, especially on weekdays in the early evening, was the best time to avoid a long wait. So that was the plan... Got there around 4 PM on a Thursday.
Well, it wasn't a short wait. It was about 3 hours to get in the door. I was considering throwing in the towel when I realized how slowly the line was moving, but Mrs Blonde, being the cool wife that she is, convinced me to stick it out. (For a beer that she tasted, and didn't even like--her aspect of our team name wasn't chosen for her hair color... Her: "You didn't tell me this was going to be so aggressive!" Uhh, no... But beer geeks don't stand out there for 3 hours for a blonde ale or a pilsner
)
Part of the on-site event isn't just the ability to get 10 oz tasting pours of PtY, it's that each person gets an allotment to purchase up to 3 bottles. So [obviously] we walked away with 6. And so one of those bottles found it's way to NJ...
Cheers!
