Hello GF Brewers,
Whether you're here because you refuse to use Facebook, or you're here to cover more brewing ground, I wanted to let you know of a new non-Meta/Facebook forum that we've launched as an extension of the Zero Tolerance group (I've been one of the admins for the past 5 years). From my post on the Zero Tolerance FB group yesterday:
The Gluten Free Brewing Guild (GFBG) is an evolution of the Zero Tolerance group that began in late 2017. Under this new name, we now have a Discord community server that aims to be a home for people passionate about (or interested in) naturally gluten-free beer, incorporating consumers, professional brewers, and homebrewers.
You can join the new community here: https://discord.gg/6TTprwJPbp
Why the Name Change?
The Zero Tolerance name was originally a tongue-in-cheek reference to brewing with zero parts per million gluten. While it reflects our commitment to gluten-free brewing, the phrase is sometimes misinterpreted by those unfamiliar with GF risks. The new name, Gluten Free Brewing Guild, reflects the continuum of experience — from beginners to experts — while reinforcing our shared passion for great gluten-free beer.
What Stays the Same?
• A welcoming, knowledgeable community focused on GF brewing
• Commitment to 100% naturally gluten-free ingredients
• A mix of homebrewers and commercial brewers learning and sharing expertise
• A focus on expanding and sharing knowledge to improve beer quality and safety for gluten-free drinkers
What's Different and Why Discord?
• Better Organization – Channels focused on different areas (e.g. homebrewing, beer tourism, brewery announcements and tap lists) provide some clearer focus. Posts don't get lost in Facebook’s algorithm.
• Less outside noise, and better moderation tools
• Easier Knowledge Retention – Important discussions won’t get buried in a feed
• Community supported funding – Ability to manage membership roles and donations
• Ability to integrate tools – Discord supports customizable features to enhance functionality (ask for breweries nearest a specified location for example)
What Happens to the Facebook Group?
This Facebook group will remain intact for the foreseeable future. While using Facebook was (or has become) a deal breaker for many people, we recognize that others are happy to stay on and don't want to change. This group, as Zero Tolerance, will continue with some basic moderation. If you want to participate in both forums, that's also OK.
The Discord community mentions donations. What's up?
Donations help sustain an ad-free, member-driven resource. A small, and OPTIONAL individual contribution will help to fund hosting costs for the wiki (which have been out-of-pocket for the last several years). Having a donation fund would create opportunities for the group to take on new advocacy opportunities, promoting naturally gluten free beer and brewing to a wider global audience.
After exploring different donation and access models, we’ve decided to keep individual donations completely optional. Right now, they don’t unlock any extra features. For the next few months, commercial GF breweries can join the private industry forum and post in the public announcements and tap list channels — even without making a brewery donation.
I work for a commercial GF brewery. How do I access the private brewery forum?
This access is intended for breweries and malt houses producing 100% naturally gluten-free malt or beer. It is not for retailers or breweries making gluten-removed beer. To join, please provide through private message:
• Your brewery/malt house name
• An official company email address for verification
• Names of any additional employees needing access (individual membership required)
Your brewery Discord profile should match your brewery name and company logo.
