Just a happy accident of timing, and you were one of the beneficiaries!

I'm not generally one to geek out over special beer releases, or anything involving waiting in lines, or where there are huge crowds. Because... I hate people. So even though there have been PtY events nearby here in Orange County, I've never actually tried the beer since I don't like those types of events.

But Mrs Blonde and I had already planned to head up to Sonoma and Napa to celebrate our anniversary. I'm a beer drinker who [sometimes] drinks wine, and she's a wine drinker who [sometimes] drinks beer, so every time we're going to be in Sonoma, a visit to Russian River Brewing is in the cards. We were staying in Healdsburg, and we'd never been to their new Windsor brewery/tasting room which was nearby, so we planned to go visit.

Well, then we looked at the web site, and realized it was the PtY release event which lasts ~2 weeks or so, and our trip was right in the middle of it. It *said* that the Windsor location, especially on weekdays in the early evening, was the best time to avoid a long wait. So that was the plan... Got there around 4 PM on a Thursday.

Well, it wasn't a short wait. It was about 3 hours to get in the door. I was considering throwing in the towel when I realized how slowly the line was moving, but Mrs Blonde, being the cool wife that she is, convinced me to stick it out. (For a beer that she tasted, and didn't even like--her aspect of our team name wasn't chosen for her hair color... Her: "You didn't tell me this was going to be so aggressive!" Uhh, no... But beer geeks don't stand out there for 3 hours for a blonde ale or a pilsner 😂 )

Part of the on-site event isn't just the ability to get 10 oz tasting pours of PtY, it's that each person gets an allotment to purchase up to 3 bottles. So [obviously] we walked away with 6. And so one of those bottles found it's way to NJ...

Cheers! :bigmug:

Quite the coincidence, I was in Napa a couple weeks ago. Wife and I planned a trip there just as a getaway for a few days. Similarly, I didn't know that the PtY release was happening when we booked, but planned to stop at the brewery, looked at the website, and realized that we'd be there for it. We got to the Santa Rosa location about the time they opened on a wednesday, had a 1.5-2hr wait to get in. Food and beer were both great. Nice beer break from all of the wine tasting!

My wife is kinda hit-and-miss on IPAs, but drank one and said she liked it. …but then ordered something else next.

So... Does that mean I can expect one in my box? 🤣
Well, quoting not too far back…

Actually, I don’t think I have your address, send me a PM. I should really get something shipped before it gets hot. Any styles you prefer or avoid?

It is getting close…about a month away from regular season. It’s time for a roll call for who is back in…and who, like me, still needs to get to the ups store!

As of now, we have at least one open spot if any outsiders are interested.

Still need some commitments from past players.

The last preseason game is not on a Sunday this year. I’d like to set the draft time for the last game, but it may be too late for the east coasters. Since aligning with last game probably won’t work, I’m thinking still making the draft on Sunday night to save everyone’s weekend. How does 8/24 @ 5:30 (pacific) work for everyone?

8/24 @ 8:30 (Eastern) works for me

Thank you for doing this. Saves a lot of time!

Monday morning update: We have 8 confirmations.

@VirginiaHops1 are you in?

@TallDan and @TheDudeLebowski need a confirmation.

I and @TheDudeLebowski need to ship by Sunday!

If we end with an odd number of teams, what are some opinions on moving forward? We can make a filler team that autodrafts and holds those players for the season? Open to other ideas. @betarhoalphadelta mentioned one year opening to an outside friend.

I'm in

Having a filler team can work if there's no other options but in my experience isn't great. We did it one year in my main league and called the team BYE WEEK or something, the team was empty. The issue is not every team plays them the same number of times so we had to calculate the standings offline to determine playoff team, based on win % with those games taken out. From what I remember

That was a live draft league though, since we're online not sure we can do that. So will the autodraft team be managed by the commish? Lineup will be set but no transactions, or will the team make transactions? This could be messy in that the autodraft team might be stronger earlier in the year, if they have injuries which aren't addressed due to lack of moves they could be weak at the end of the year and an easy W for whoever gets to play them.

My personal opinion, I'd rather fill the remaining spots with non HBT people than go that route.

Yeah, I'd recommend that the team be run by someone real.

The alternative would be to have a team that is actively managed by the commish, but with restrictions... I.e. no trades, no transactions not driven by injury / bye week needs / other (such as player like a QB getting benched for replacement), all transactions done in FA so as not to affect waiver claims for active teams, etc. When a player is acquired it's the highest projected remaining player at that position for the next week (so there's no subjectivity, etc). I trust @lupulinaddict to basically manage the team in a fair way.

But that can be a mess regardless--especially if that team makes the playoffs or wins it all! :D

So let's try to find someone for an open slot--and if it's not an HBT member that's fine, as long as they recognize the basic "buy-in" that they either do well enough to receive beer, or they're on the hook to ship.

I'm in. Still gotta send my package to the winner of last year. I'll get that out in a week

We are coming down to the wire. If the hbt members mentioned are not interested, does anyone have a friend that would be a good fit? I’d like to get the last spot switched before Sunday.
