I just can't find any info on a bottle that old. Made by Jean Pierre I assume? Anyone open one in that age range? Awesome or awful? feel free to private message any info or guidance if you want

Celebrating finally getting this huge glass want of mine. 02/17/2011 Golden Blend is drinking so so well right now. Straight oak and funk. Very high carb though, started gushing right away. Has been in the fridge for around a week.

Last night marked the beginning of my long awaited gueuze week... I'll be trying 2 to 4 different gueuzes (and a few wild ales) each night through Sunday. Last night started out with the standard stuff: Cantillon Classic, 3f OG, Hanssens Oude Gueuze and Tilquin Gueuze.

Personal ranking:
1) 3F - Easily my favorite, I nitpicked the flavors of some of the others but this was an obvious choice. Great levels of acicity and funk, not too dry or bitter, really nice soft mouthfeel.
2) Cantillon/Hanssens - This was really surprising to me, I couldn't pick one over the other. I was expecting Cantillon to be my favorite and Hanssens to be my least favorite. Cantillon was a bit more assertive with more bitter mineral flavors but it was probably also more interesting overall. Hanssens was just extremely well balanced, I think I got lucky with a stellar bottle.
3) Tilquin - Easily my least favorite. Still very good, but so dry that I felt like it was there and then gone before I got to taste much.

Bonus beer: The Archer b2 - ******* incredible. Can't compare it to the gueuzes, but I definitely noticed a lot similarities in the funk and more pinot flavor than any beer I've had before.

Next up will be..... LPG vs. Tilquin Squared!

Was this the 2014-15 Tilquin? I tried it for the first time last week and found it to be way too dry for my liking. Definitely nowhere close to what 2013-14 was/is.

Tilquin was 12-13, Cantillon was 13, 3F was 13 and Hanssens was 14 I believe

I heard Cuvee Rene 750s have been pulled by the local distro due to lack of sales.

Except that is not at all true. Cuvee Rene demand is at an all-time high. Lindemans is expanding because of how much demand there it is for their unsweetened products...

some distributors (like my work) aren't even ordering 750s of CR from MdV and haven't for years, just the 375s.

glad I finally got our Cat Mgr who handles MdV to finally put in a order for CR Kriek. when I asked him about its status a couple of weeks ago he was all "WTF is that and why would anyone want Lindemanns?", claiming no knowledge of it. a couple days later he got back to me and said MdV was just beginning to announce it and not available to order. he seemed shocked when I told him it was on the shelves in many surrounding states so obviously MdV was selling it. then he said "well, it's not ABC approved" so I sent him a screenshot of the VA ABC approval... these Mgrs have no clue what they're talking aboot...

is the SpontanBasil being highly allocated anywhere in the US or is my Mgr just making up **** regarding that one too?

I've seen SpontanBasil all over the place, just sitting on shelves with no limit (in Chicago). I think the $28-30 price tag is the culprit. I'm not complaining.

I skimmed through that and saw where Mikkeller commented on facebook about the discussion.

Am I the only one scratching my head when a gypsy brewer refers to lambic as "his beer." Did he brewed it, blended it and packaged it or just be present during some of the process and write a check, create a label and put his name on it?

Gueuze week day 2:

Girardin: Pretty dry, high carb, mild funk. Basically a slight improvement on the overly dry Tilquin I had last night, it has a bit more body and roundness to it.

LPG: BRIE AND APPLES. This is all I could think of while trying drinking this beer. I've heard people compare flavors in lambic to aged cheese before but I never understood it until now. Lower carb, rounder body, not too acidic but very funky and left the exact taste of apples and brie in my mouth. One of the more unique beers I've had, and while I'd say I enjoyed it more than Girardin, its not something I would want all the time.
