When did your package arrive?
If it was shaken up good during shipping and not allowed a week plus and low temps the co2 would not fully absorb into the beer. This would result in the little explosion to begin with and no bubbles down the stretch

I got the box 11/24. 2 days ago. Threw it in my temp-controlled chest freezer on it's side. What you said makes total sense though, and I forgot pretty much any gueuze needs some time to settle after shipping or else it will blow.

I hope that Oude Kriek explodes all over my face.

i usually wait like a month for yeast to settle. once there is clarity in the upper 90% of the bottle.

Before I forget, it seems the new 2014 Cantillon bottles have slightly different caps. They are extremely sharp compared to pre-2014 bottle caps. I compared a 2012 St. Lam and a 2014 Kriek for one.

Dont even pay attention to that, it's SeaWatchman's brain child anyways

Review for De Cam Oude Kriek. Bottling date unknown at this time. 750ml. Approximately 6.5%ABV. Poured into a De Garde Sundae glass (thanks box_social!)

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, seductive, dark red. A one-finger pinkish-red head forms and quickly dissipates.

Aroma: Fresh cherry jam. Candied lemon. Funktastic basement.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Tart lemon is dominant. Cherry flavor is underlying and very subtle. Refreshing, but relatively sour. Medium-bodied. Low carb.

Overall: Very drinkable despite it's sourness. It's like a tart lemonade with a hint of cherry juice added. Not bad, but not mind blowing. On a 10-scale, I'd rate it 6/10. It hits familiar notes of a Kriek beer, but is overwhelmed by tart lemons. Complete waste of 15 euros. Should have saved my money for another Cantillon Iris or Cuvee St. Gilloise or even Kriek.

I loved my De Cam Oude Kriek - or at least, the 1/4 of it left in the bottle after it painted my kitchen wall and ceiling bright pink.

Relevant video that even matches the color (skip to 1:28):

I'm sorry that you didn't care for it. In my experience De Cam Oude Kriek is the most funky lambic out there. It's like cherry pie and musty old basement. Perhaps your bottle is a 2014 and it needs a little time to develop? Either way, thanks for the reviews.

I hope the bottle you get was as good as the batch 1 I had the night I opened Blauw, Framboos, Blabaer, Malvasia Rosso, Crianza, 50N4E b1 and b2, brabatiae, and SHBRL among others...

Huh, we're opening most of those and a few more the night we are drinking that batch 1 hommage. Coincidence? I think not.

Is it weird I imagined you periodically in a dark basement touching caps like a serial killer pets their dolls when you said that?

Opened one bottle from each year. My personal favorite was 11/12 bottle.

In order of preference for myself (my buddy agreed as well)

11/12
10/11
13/14
12/13

11/12 bottled in March (I think it was March) was nuts. Open one if you haven't recent
