It's an absolutely amazing geueze that is somehow under the radar. It's all over Japan, for some reason.
It's on my radar, it's just that I never see it anywhere. I'm not even sure I've had it before. Maybe I just forget to look...

What is the general consensus on the fruited Hanssens? Reviews seem to be good, but a full step down from the basic Cantillon and 3F offerings as opposed to the gueuze which is more like half a step down.

Experimental Raspberry is to date the most sour beer I have ever had. It was absolutely brutal. Puts Mother Funker to shame. I enjoyed the regular Kriek, and while it lacked some of the complexity of a Cantillon or 3F it was definitely enjoyable.

I love Experimental Raspberry. But it is completely brutally sour.

was on the shelf at gordons a few months back, might still be there. if you can't find any I will gladly open one if you are ever up in the lowell area
I didn't know the black label even made it to the US. tehzachatak we can open one when I see you next week if you can't find any locally

Thanks, gents :) I was just really surprised to hear - I look for lambic every time I enter a beer store (which, as you might guess, is relatively frequently) and buy basically anything I haven't already tried, and I've never seen a Girardin, ever. Relatively high on my list to try as well...

Very enjoyable and usually available on the shelf around me. I'm not sure how affordable it is at $11/375ml.
I have only bought it from Belgiuminabox. Have never seen it in the US. If you buy the value pack you get about 32 375 bottles for about 88 euros so comes out to about 2.5 euros per bottle. If you can find someone to split shipping and the beer it becomes more "affordable".

Who are the 5 best blenders of all time? Think about it. Armand, Armand, Armand, Armand, and Armand.

I found some of the old lambic research papers referenced in the scholarly article above from the American Wild thread. Here's what's in the link below:
  • FATTY ACIDS AND ESTERS PRODUCED DURING THE SPONTANEOUS FERMENTATION OF LAMBIC AND GUEUZE - 1978
  • SYNTHESIS OF AROMA COMPONENTS DURING THE SPONTANEOUS FERMENTATION OF LABIC AND GUEUZE - 1976
  • MICROBIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF SPONTANEOUS WORT FERMENTATION IN PRODUCTION OF LAMBIC AND GUEUZE - 1977
So if lambic/gueuze microbiology discussions really pump your nads, this should provide enough material to get you through your next extended edging session.

Has anyone bought any lambic from Japan? I have a friend living there and she's coming back stateside soon and was curious.

I know I've seen some Cantillon and Girardin in Osaka back in 2010 and saw the posts in here about the baby fou's, but has the game changed there at all? I'm just hoping to land a few bottles I cant grab in my area.

Would it be creepy to FaceTime chat with you friend while they hunted lambic in japan and could show you what's on the shelf?

This could probably happen. Bonus if we get some type of conference call involved as well.

Japanese stores have stuff that's not easy to find here, from what my friend tells me. They also have stuff like Westy 12 if that floats your boat.
