I mean, I guess, but with the money going to charity I see absolutely no issue with it.
Sure, for you personally, but you're possibly the person who's most emotionally/intellectually invested in lambic that doesn't produce it. I mean for the average ****** on BA. (Also, I don't have any issue whatsoever with Cantillon charging $TEXAS to Americans for their beers, charity or no, I'm questioning why we automatically assume this will be a shitshow.)
You and I both know it's silly to call it "some grape beer", because we both know it is expressly not that. That's not how this works and it hasn't worked like that for many years.
Eh. How many of the people who are going to be F5ing for these know the first thing about these grapes? Hell, how many would even be able to pick these beers out of a lineup of St Lam and Vigneronne dyed red? My guess is not very many. Certainly not enough to crash the site. The fact is that as far as the vast majority of beer nerds' palates are concerned it really is "just some grape beer", but no one is good enough at introspection to realize that.

Or maybe I'm just jaded, I dunno.

I think that most people buying a beer like this are largely paying for an experience and a story, rather than the explicit flavor of the beer within. Sure, it helps if it tastes great, which these likely will, but that's a secondary consideration.

We all do this, otherwise we'd certainly stick to far more accessible and affordable options than anything involving shipping.

Both points 100% valid. I'd love to pop a rarity with some friends if I could afford it. I equally love paying $30 for a Boon and a good bottle of French wine.

Probebly not, since as far as I can tell this post didn't even hit the wire on BA, but there's still a large enough contingent of the old school crew who keep their ears to the ground for stuff like this to make it sell. Couple that with Facebook shitlords and this will crash the site immediately.

Ok fine, but I don't think that changes my overall point, nor is it particularly a problem. We've all purchased trophy bottles, right?
Yeah, but it's dumb. There are better ways to validate yourself than dropping $200 on a bottle of beer.

...Then again, for some shitlords maybe there aren't.

2) how people sorjd their disposable income.

Sorjd'ing triggers me so hard.

But to be serious for a moment. I think it's semi-disingenuous to harp on the "charity" aspect of this. It's incredibly noble by Cantillon, but I doubt 90% of the people that purchase bottles would donate $20 of their own money to help the winemakers, so to suggest any part of this is "charity" aside from Jean offering up bottles from his stash is a stretch. They're spending $200 to drink a bottle of lambic, and $0 to help the winemakers of Europe.
