I know that we're off on a tangent here, but I think that I too would throw $$ at one of these bottles, with the intention of consuming it on a spacial occasion. This piece in the New Yorker about bourbon/rarity is one that I often think about when drinking "rare" beer. The gist is this:

Rarity elevates a product or experience by turning its consumption into a notable event. It’s through such notable events that one life is distinguished from another; in fact, in an informal way, you might quantify your well-being as the sum total of notable events you experience across time... Rarity isn’t all about social signalling, though. Pappy’s rarity also makes the bourbon taste better, since people often consume rare products in an especially deliberate way. Precisely because they know rare experiences are scarce, they slow down and savor them, revealing layers of pleasure that might go unnoticed otherwise.

Anyway, that's the justification I used when I sent a screen cap of the FB post to my GF, who, in turn, said "no."

Isn't this pretty much how all charity sales work? I pretty much ignore most things until they're selling something I want and then I'm happy to throw a few dollars at it. Capitalism sucks.

Oh absolutely. But being smart enough to realize "but it's for a good cause" doesn't change the reality of the situation is something a lot of people have trouble accepting.

sorry to move away from charity and cantillon sales, but I have a question about international shipping. Typically my orders from etre take about 10-14 days to arrive. My most recent order shipped from Etre on June 21, left Belgium on June 24th, and there is no update since then. Seems a long time for customs without any update on the bpost or USPS website. I'm in Texas so these typically go through New York. Any suggestions or has anyone had one take this long in customs?

Might be an issue with Etre's packaging, does your BPost # have any updates past arrival in JFK?

I placed an order with BiaB on the 6/29 and got it 7/7. Through JFK to Austin.

Neither bpost nor usps have any update since the 24th saying it departed Belgium

Is there a brewer / blender who uses grapefruit in their lambic ? :) If not ... why not ? o_O

I reckon using a grapefruit /citrus hop would be a better option for a short term batch.

Grapefruit is stupid bitter, can we persuade someone to do a watermelon lambic instead?
