In its first use, fermentation went on for 12 days before transferring beer to keg. Opened it up to clean and... the threaded lid ring's threads had a strange aroma like evergreen.
I don't know if it makes any difference but this was a Tripel using WLP550 The smell in the threads did not smell like the beer or the yeast.
Out of the package, I gave all the parts a good initial cleaning. I applied keg lube to the threaded ring which is the only suspicion I could come up. But that hasn't shown to produce an odor before. After wiping the residual lube out, the strength of the aroma was minimized significantly. After a thorough cleaning, the smell is eliminated.
Anyone else ever experience this?
