Good luck. You did Highline work? That place was awesome this fall.

I went there to take measurements, photographs and essentially just document the Highline in its original state. There was an open "contest" for design submissions for its revitalization into what it is now. I simply submitted my designs. It was a fun project. Made a scaled model of part of it that was nearly 15 feet long. Really cool.

Heh. Yeah. I've PM'd multiple mods/admin about gaining access to the BY because people suggested checking out certain things. Not once a response. Not once granted access. Shrug.

They are looking out for your delicate sensibilities.

Hrm... just discovered that my 3 days in Austin coincide with the last weekend of SxSW. Gulp. Might make it more crowded/interesting.

Given the want to visit breweries and bars - what part of town should I be staying in? I typically get free (points) based stays with Marriott - so extra points there.

Better start looking for any available hotel - place gets pretty mobbed for sxsw. And one week out? Yea, good luck. Doubt any of the big chains will be available, especially for rewards/points stays.

Took a long nap. That was nice. Just found out Saintsomewhere is close. Why? One place i want to hit is close

Close or closed? Assume you mean closed, but big difference. Classic.

Have you seen the finished product? Interested to hear/see how your design would have differed.

Finally - I am there 19-21 MAR, so HBT meetup at some point?

On Topic, moar water.

Ya, we dont go anywhere for 2 weeks now. North, south, east, west all have good visit spots. To better explain, here's a web site. These are all top notch...but to quantify, I haven't been to everyone, but people I trust have been to many.

Jester King is southwest Austin. With Thirsty Planet, Last Stand and Argus cider nearby. Austin Beer Works is north.

Hopes this helps.

Make sure you hit Torchy's Tacos. Awesome local joint. Look up their secret menu on line..

My hunting knife, handmade by a guy in TX. Shaper than it should be and I absolutely love it. He made the sheath as well.

This is what I carry to training.

Slot cars!!!!

I just had a couple pints with my brother and dad. Feeling good. back to coffee.

I haven't seen it in person; all I have seen are googled pictures. My design had more 'built-in' park structures and venues. Benches didn't necessarily look like benches, there was a small concert area and shops underneath. I was young. One of the first big design projects I worked on.

My work issue knife.

Psy, Your sword fighting thing is Korean correct? Was that video the Japanese version? Or Japanese people fighting the Korean style? Also with using wood swords it must be hard to fall on your sword after you loose and bring dishonor.

That was Japanese kendo, but they are effectively the same thing. Kumdo is a little more lenient on scoring (not much) and leads to a more aggressive fight more often than not.

That, I would love to see.

Me too. That was from a previous life, when I still had hope. All remnants of that time are gone... aside from a handful of pencil-to-paper drawings that my mom secreted away before I could purge any evidence of those dreams from my life. All of the pictures, portfolios and models have since been destroyed by fire. The few drawings she saved however, I now cherish deeply. I've got a beautiful cross section I did of an antique wood planar that was my grandfathers, drawn 2:1 framed in my home office now.

That's a shame. Destroyed by fire! Intentional or accidental?

No judgement if intentional, just curious. I've destroyed some stuff I made too in the past. (Nothing I'm sure as skillfully crafted as what you're describing).

Spending countless hours on a model ship, painting, rigging, etc only get the urge one day to smash the completed piece to smithereens. Not sure why I felt the need but ch1t happens. I've always liked seeing things come apart.

Mine expires today. Really, there's no big advantage to having a paid membership. Unless you want to access the debate forum. Not sure why anyone would want that. Or the BY. Once again, why? You can still enter the giveaways by mail and use most of the site. $25 for an avatar and no ads is not worth it.

With you here. Not sure why anyone would want to use the debate forum. Poked my head in there once or twice out of curiosity to read the nonsense. I pretty quickly decided I prefer not knowing folks' views on stuff. None of my business really.

Don't get the BY either, but to each their own I guess.

Solar guard girl gets nekkid maybe? Never been there.

I meant closed. Because 'too many things to hit for beerweek'

Ive never had that ad. I want that ad.

Depends what "other" sites you hit

I go into the BY every now and again...I typically regret it immediately...
