My pH is usually ok as well, but ever since I started tweaking it a bit, it's been netting better efficiency and I'm liking the feel more.

I don't have a meter, fwiw. Just flying blind on Bru'n water and my water report.

Also I should add that this is all anecdotal, I don't know if mash pH and efficiency are linked that much... Just my casual observation over the last few brews where I've changed the water and nothing else.

Things like this make me really appreciate philly water. It's damn near perfect for brewing.

Thanks for the call, Bill. Sounds like a typical problem i see with antsy newcomers and id also like to welcome to you the group. In short, you're not that good. Find a new calculator and stop dreaming sweetheart.

Seriously though, what calculator did you use? Was that mash or brewhouse efficiency?

Brewer's Friend
I was drinking beer better than rolling rock on brew day, so I must've messed up the input. Just redid it and it's 87%. Still night and day better than the 65% I'd get with the LHBS crush...

@finsfan I'm a long time listener, first time caller. I milled my own grains for the first time and calculated an efficiency of 96%. Is this even possible, or should I find a new calculator? I'll hang up and listen to your response. Thanks.

If I could cut across you there....

The calculator might be just fine. The math is really simple.

Measurement error plays a role, always, just a matter of how much.

Here is a bit on how to make it a bit part player and calculate efficiency more accurately.

Again sorry to butt in. I'll get my coat.

All this nerdy stuff. It's like a ball of yarn to a cat. I couldn't resist.

Summer brewing kinda sucks though. I prefer the cold over heat for brewing

I brew in the basement so time of year doesn't make a huge difference to me. Give me a nice fall day though and I get pretty jealous of the outdoor and garage Brewers.

That looks great. Never realized before how much the UP looks like a shark.

Thanks. I felt so geographically ignorant doing this. I pulled out a map and thought:

1. There's really that much UP east of the the top of the LP?

2. Menominee County (the southernmost part of the UP) sits that far south?

But it is pretty accurate as hung. If I started over, I'd shift the whole UP left 1/2" - 1", but that's pretty nitpicky.

So just a day full of berry pawnching then?

I liked BA buffalo sweat a lot more after I realized that it is only like 5% abv.

Coffee and toast. I made some jam out of a really funky cherry sour. It is freaking delicious.

Need the Jam.

Just finished the homebrew club meeting. On the way to a brewery that opens today. Hope its good.
