So really sad day today.

DEM Brown Doe, Wannapils, Brown Porter kicked, and I'm guessing that Helles has just a couple pints left based on how light it is. That was pretty much all my kegs on the same day. Have a stout that I don't like, still wanting to add something to it to cut the sweetness -- chocolate and coffee maybe... just way too lazy so far and not sure what to add. Then the brown lager I just kegged. Need to stepup my brewing and calm down my drinking game. Next weekend is 10gal of more porter, so that'll help. Should've done 10 of the pils today but didnt think.

Ate pizza and watched a QI, fell asleep and had a couple hour nap. Now not sure what the rest of the day holds.

Did you get your brew in?

How did your step mash treat you. Fun no?

I went back to bed during my mash earlier.

Looks like its 1-1 on the nap battle (were we to have one)

Went out for Indian food earlier. Youngest went berserk, had to box up my grub and leave. Flocking kids. Nice trip to the bottle-o afterwards though so not all bad.

Have some Dirty Bastard and Dankosaurus

QI is a great show. Haven't seen it since I was last in Ireland. Is it on netflix or some other place?

Just so we're talking about the same thing...

Stepmash was fun, sure. Just heated and stirred instead of mucking aorund with an infusion. Hope the brew comes out well.

With an electric setup that's the way to go for sure. What is your rate of temperature increase on your setup.

5000+Watts?

electric science + step mash science = tasty beverage

There's a Specs a lot closer to me than Northwest Hwy. I'll sheckitout.

More Steel Toe by the grill. Getting chilly.

No doubt. Wasn't sure if it was some hard to find yoke. It's thanks to this thread, specifically @thecadjockey 's and @hunter_la5 's lovers' tryst that I've heard of this beer at all.

Cracking day here in TX. Sunny and chilly. Wish I had a fire pit or something out in the garden. Would be perfect right now.

Different strategies for step mashes each have their advantages. Direct fire is easiest both in terms of equipment and temperature math, but also in terms of chemistry, but there's the scorching risk, and the requirement to constantly stir. Infusions actually allow you to manipulate the pH at each step to allow to optimum pH for each enzyme. And decoctions obviously have the melanoidin formation.

As I mash in a cooler, direct fire has never been an option for me, but infusion mashes and decoction mashes are easy enough, as long as you make sure you have enough strike water/decoction size to overcompensate, as the calculators always undershoot the amount needed.

Dessert/breakfast. This is fantastic.

Glad that's holding up well, I have one I need to drink.

Add coffee and/or chocolate; they have anti-sweetness properties.

Just finished dinner at a Brazilian steakhouse. I've never been to one in the US, so I can't compare, but the drinks were good and they brought meat out faster than I could eat it. Stopped at a grocery/liquor store and they had Brooklyn brewery's stuff. They were going for about 8 USD per 12 is bottle. That might explain why they still had the pumpkin seasonal. We got wine instead.

Changed plans and got Japanese instead of Chinese. Win.

More of this, relaxing but have to keg beer in a minute here.

I think the only Alaskan beer I've had was a barleywine I got a growler of from a Central Market (sort of like WholeFoods but regional) here in TX

It was really fantastic (only BW I've had so generous pinch of salt). Not sure why I haven't tried more.

What with all your mid week practice gaming you must have really hammered your kid at whatever nerd-game you showed earlier. Hope she's not too upset about losing and realizing her Dad is a hopeless lost-cause-geek.

Co-op brother... We were in it together. Most of my games are players vs. the system.

Yeah, 5500W element. I didnt time it but I easily get a few degrees per minute. It went by very quickly.

Just finished watching Back to the Future with the kids. Getting them to bed now. Such a fun time. Wife was on call and got called in, so nothing left for me to do but have a night cap and watch some house of cards. Maybe start planning my next batch: Baltic Porter.

Baltic Porter sounds awesome. I'd also like to see untaggableGavin science up a lager like that.
