    Keep getting stuck mashes

So the last few times I have been brewing I have been getting stuck mashes. I have a 10 gallon Home Depot cylinder cooler with a braided SS mesh filter. Would a false bottom or some other filter work better? My last batch was a hefe which I know is more common for stuck mashes. However, I had...

    Really full Keg

So I just racked my Amber in to a keg and it ended up barely fitting. It's so full that the gas literally only made a small Psst at 35lbs and stopped. So I am wondering will it still be ok and good to carbonate? I've just never had the keg this full before.. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

What are your Memorial Day HB plans?

Personally I am going to be taking my beer-side-Togo dispensing setup on it's maiden voyage ( pic below). It will have a Belgium Strong Blonde that was racked on 2 pounds of strawberry purée dubbed "PD (panty dropper) Strawberry Blonde". It will also have a 90 min Dog Fish IPA clone that I...

    From grain to glass

So I just had to take a moment to share my fascination with all grain brewing. I've been brewing for a few years now but only been doing all grain for the last 4 batches. I always said I would still do extract batches when time was tight or just for the heck of it. However I am so infatuated...

    Need some input...

Been brewing and kegging for a while but this is a first. So I am brewing 3 different beers for a Memorial Day party one of which is a IPA. Anyways my IPA I ended up dry hopping without a hop bag this time and all seemed great. Tastes great, gravity and IBU's are spot on and sample test...

    Just wanted to double check

So been brewing for a few years now but only been doing all grain the for the past several batches. Anyways I did my first all grain IPA and all turned out well 89 IBU's nice and dry and about 8.5 ABV. However I was dry hopping today with 2 oz of cascades and things got messy. I usually...

    My first infection ever

Well it looks like I finally got my first infected beer ever. I've done about 20 plus batches and have yet to have an issue. So my question is if it's really worth keeping. I know folks have said to rack it and see but do they ever turn out good? I don't want something I'm not gonna like to...

    Carbing question

So I know I can sugar carb my beer in a keg but I prefer force carbing as there is less sediment. Anyways to my question. After force carbing a keg can I take it off the CO2 so I can carb another keg with it still staying carbonated? I am assuming yes but up to this point I have only done...

    Prime or force carb

Hey all, I have a big party in a few months and I am going to be making and kegging 3 batches of beer. I currently only have a single keg regulator and more importantly only have a single keg sized keg-o-rator. Normally I force carb but am thinking my best option would be to prime carb...

    Keg carbing

So I have a batch of IPA that I made for the Super Bowl. This is only the seconded time I have kegged a batch of beer. The first time I did the shake method at high pressure and it worked fine ( no over carbonation). However I don't want to risk things and I think I have time to set and...

    Keg to bottle question

I know the question about filtering beer has come up on many threads. My random question is this. Would there be any disadvantages or advantages to killing your yeast ( using potassium sorbate) after fermentation and then bottling carbonated beer via a keg gun? Would this impact the...

    Foam over observation

So I was brewing today and noticed something I had not experienced before. Let me note here that I have a personal preference of whole hops over pellet hops although I know there are studies saying pellets give better results. Including research by my local university Oregon State. However my...

    Secondary question

Ok so I know this is a cider question on a brew forum but I can never get a decent and timely answer from the cider group. Plus I am typically a beer brewer that is just trying new things. So after the long intro on to my question. I have racked my cider into my secondary on top of 3/4...

So would dooms day for brewer be prohibition?

Just a random question for fun. If the answer is yes then you can call me a prepper.. Feel free to give you own thoughts on what dooms day for a brewer might be.

    Double checking

I'm gonna post this here since I am mainly a beer brewer and I'm getting no response on the cider forum...... So I think I am safe but I wanted to check. I am making a hard apple cider/wine that is not going to be carbonated. My plan is to bottle half of my 5 gallon batch as is and I will be...

    Just double checking

So I think I am safe but I wanted to check. I am making a hard apple cider/wine that is not going to be carbonated. My plan is to bottle half of my 5 gallon batch as is and I will be racking the other half into a small secondary ( Mr. Beer keg actually) on to some vanilla bean and cinnamon...

Great news we are no longer just hobbists

Based on the article below we have all been upgraded from hobbyists to pharmaceutical engineers. Congrats all... http://www.foxnews.com/health/2012/12/07/beer-can-fight-against-cold-causing-virus/?test=latestnews
