Yes, if you're making a 5 gallon batch, with as an example an original gravity of 1.050 or so, you could probably add a pound or so of sugar to the boil. Aside from maybe a thinner bodied beer, you wouldn't have much flavor impact.

I'd start with a little bit "bigger" recipe from the beginning like amandabad mentioned. Two cans of malt extract, increasing the hops (if not using prehopped extract), and then a pound of sugar would give you about a 6% ABV beer.

If you wanted to go with a higher ABV than that, then more malt extract would be needed and of course more hops if not using prehopped extract.

An alternative would be to find a good recipe or a good kit and make a beer that you'd really like. Since fall is here, I'd think of a big rich Imperial Stout or something like that. If you've ever seen the hundreds and hundreds of kits available at a place like austinhomebrew.com, you know you could find exactly what you are looking for, with great taste as well.

I really like this one, as an example: http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?products_id=13334

Yo..... Dat 'ich Cray!

adding a lb of sugar will add roughly 1% to your ABV, give or take, depending on the beer. I would suggest Dextrose, it ferments easy and leaves less flavor behind. That being said the only flavor you will MAYBE notice is a bit thinner beer. You can add honey to jack up the ABV as well as add aroma and a slight honey twang. Then you can call it "Honey Whatever Ale" Experiment, have fun!

Is this Op?

Another great thing we can't get in pa!!!! I guess i'll have to make my own just like deschuttes beers. Who has an everclear clone recipe. :(

We can buy Everclear here in Georgia, but we CAN'T buy beer >15% ABV. Of course, you could always pour the Everclear in DFH90min and it's pretty much the same as the 120 minute, right? Maybe throw in a few hop pellets to make up the difference? :cross:

Hate to be that guy, but it actually might taste kind of close. If you ask me, 120 minute is overrated. Just like 90 minute only it burns. Not pleasant.

I'm afraid to watch that show. I don't have enough time to get things done around here as it is.

But I bet you 5 to 1 my wife gets hooked on it before the year is up.

Quite possibly the best show in the history of television. Might be better than Dexter (which has fallen in my eyes a bit since season 2/4).

Dexter never hooked me like BB did, too bad this is last season for BB :(

Man, it did me. Seasons 1 and 2 were both so incredible... 3 was an anomaly, and then season 4 blew my mind. Just wow. So many moments where my jaw dropped. Any show/movie that can do that is good in my book.

Alcamahol is dope, and Everclear is dope. And yo yo we could roll.

We be in a big hurry for dope beer with much alcamahol and flavor, quality, balance, and aroma don't matter. We just wantz to be druck, u know?

From now on when I see somebody say "Listen to Yooper, she knows her stuff" I am posting this quote! :D
