I am doing a 10 gallon batch of wee heavy tomorrow - in the 1.085 range. I bought yeast monday, pitched to 1/2 gallon starter tuesday, chilled & decanted, then added 3/4 gallon starter for a step up and should now be left with 6-700 billion cells...anyone care to backcheck my cell count assuming the starters were on a stir plate?? It has never exactly been clear to me how much additional multiplication you get when you use a stir plate...x2 or x3?

I wanted to pick brains and see if anyone pulls some yeast (to store) out of their starter prior to pitching?

Do you need to clean it at that point? I assume not.
Best recommended storage techniques?

Any input would be appreciated.
