i brewed a hobgoblin clone using dry nottingham yeast that was ok but not quite right
i then ordered activator pack of wyeast 1187 ringwood ale as suggested in the recipe which has now been in primary for 1 week.
since the yeast was $9.00 and shipping $10.00 (i did get a few other supplies but i ordered mainly for the yeast that i can't get locally) i would like to use the yeast again.
since i now have 5 gallons of near hobgoblin(nottingham yeast) and soon 5 gallons with wyeast = 10 gallons of hobgoblin

what else can wyeast 1187 be used to brew?
any suggestions appreciated:mug:

That yeast sounds difficult to work with, but I would throw a nice, simple brown ale on the cake.

The description I found of this yeast was:

1187 -- Ringwood Ale Yeast
Extremely malty profile, finishes estery and fruity. Difficult yeast to manage due to high flocculating characteristics. High oxygen requirements and poor stability in storage. According to reports, this is now availabe to homebrewers in the XL smack packs. Inquire with your local retailer.
  • Temperature range:
  • Apparent attenuation: 69-73%.
  • Source: Ringwood.

I've got some of that stuff saved, so I've been wondering the same thing. Beer Captured suggests using it for an English IPA (King & Barnes), or an English Bitter (McMullen's AK Original). I would think it will work well for any ESB too. I've gotten pretty fond of Belhaven Twisted Thistle, so I'm thinking I might try to use it in a clone of that.
