Kane's problem is they care way too much about all the people crying on their facebook posts. They should just take the HF approach, limited releases only purchasable with creditcard/id so no one can just slime their way back in line to get extras.

Kane has a lot more locals to worry about than HF I'd wager, but yes in a perfect world they'd have the money/manpower to do something like that. A lot easier at Hill now that they don't have horrendously long lines for bottle releases anymore.

If you'll recall from the Mexican Brunch announcement, part of the reason they're going this route is because of complaints from neighboring businesses due to the traffic, parking, lines, etc., that go along with a bottle release. Hill being in the middle of nowhere on a farm that Shaun owns means they can kind of do whatever they want, lines or not. Kane does not have such freedom. I mean, ****, they can't even have a food truck out back to feed that line.

I think you have to look at how HF runs things in a vacuum. They are, quite frankly, in the middle of no where, and a few hours away from any metropolitan area.

As for Kane, instead of having a BA quad stick around for a few weeks, it will be gone in a weekend. Not bad on their end.

I just wish the ratio was better. I'm gonna try to get a set and I've had all the other Anniversary beers and love them so I'm cool with 4 bottles even if others think it's too much. But the 2192 at 1pp is a little rough. I'm not in to trying to get my mom, sister, and grandma to make the trip so I can grab multiples plus drop dollars for 2-3 sets.

Idk why Kane just doesn’t follow what other breweries do for their popular beers/events, there are plenty of models to run off of. For the Anniversary they should hold a few sessions that include a bottle (Friday night/ 2 on Saturday) and they also need to start a bottle club. Bottles don’t need to be exclusive but at least guarantee people an allotment so they aren’t flooding the place on a particular weekend. I saw Glenn post a week or so back that a club would be unfair but there are ways to balance out membership as well (500 members, 250 from online and 250 from an in person brewery raffle, no duplicate addresses or CC).

In the past I loved going to Kane, and still do when I know the place doesn’t have anything crazy on, which is a shame as I miss out on a lot.

Also they need to actually have the anniversary beer on tap for once. I hate how it’s bottle only!

The anniversary beers are never bad, in fact, it's usually a good beer. It's just not something I want 4 bottles of, I'd take 1 and split it with a few people, but the blended Porter/Stout is what everyone really wants. They know that people just want the blended stout, I've seen people say to Mike Kane's face "why do you make quads still? Just make stouts and porters" He smiles politely and says "it's a good beer". After giving everyone their money back for Mexican Brunch, I don't think we have anything to complain about.

Where do they hold the party? On site? Probably a no go with the town or they would have already been having parties like Spellbound does for theirs.

And if they did on-site sales for a bottle club what would that turn into? Do they not announce it and piss off everyone outside of a 15 mile radius or announce it and have 2k people trying to camp overnight? That's why they changed how ANTEAD is released.

They obviously have issues with local businesses/the town and either you take them on their word and believe that they are trying to do it the best way possible or think that they are being disingenuous about why they do what they do.

Anyone who is looking to pawn off their quads post-release, hit me up.

They should hold the party on site like they have for other events. There have been many events that have been at Kane over the years. Going way back there use to be three events a year: There was a hop fest in the spring, a stout fest in the winter and the anniversary event in the fall. As for private events Kane use to have them on Sundays, I believe they held a few until they extended their hours on Sundays (Im sure I can/will be corrected on this). Also Kane has hosted events for the American Homebrew Association where it was a registered event that you got free wort at, plus free hops, had a killers tap list plus give aways of bottles. Best event I've ever been to at a brewery and for the AHA.

Like I said about release/events/clubs: there are tons of models out there to use. Keep it online only like CCB. There are plenty of other options. No proxy, No repeat address, CC, etc.

I don't think Kane is being disingenuous at all, but I also don't think they are doing their best. I think they are being reluctant with making moves that will won't make everyone happy. We live in a highly populated area with a lot of entitled people. We need to start saying "sorry, maybe next time" and moving on. I think my suggestions cover this too; multiple events for people to come to, guaranteed bottles from a club to reduce lines/crowds and most importantly having the anniversary beer on tap at the brewery when its the anniversary are all solid ideas. Instead of telling me they aren't good ideas suggest to me what would be an option so I can see where you are coming from, having multiple perspectives is always valuable.

I'm sure I'm misremembering, but when was there an annual hopfest? Saturday of St Paddy's weekend was Port Omna Day. The crowds got so big they had to split it up over multiple weekends and now just have a few Port Omna variants on tap around that time of year. The anniversary was held off site at different bars for the first two years, maybe three? They tried it at the brewery and again crazy crowd sizes. There are simply way too many people within a driveable distance of Kane that have crazy FOMO and flood the brewery when anything remotely big happens. This ends up with an unhappy staff, unhappy regulars, and probably a decent amount of those unhappy crazy people too.

At least doing it the way they're doing it, they can control the crowd sizes. Is it a perfect system? Nope, but it works for now.

The hop event was call Wolf Among the Seas. Started in 2013 I believe.

And I get the craziness of it all. I’m saying they should spread the event out over the weekend. 3 sessions to go to. Cuts crowds down tremendously.

I’ve been going to Kane since Mike’s wife was working the bar. I’ve seen the progression and the turning point was the 2015 GABF winning ANTEAD. From then on things just kept getting crazier. Kane did a great job but they need to evolve again to control things better while still providing a good experience.

I’m just a huge fan of the amazing Facebook threads these releases are creating. Very entertaining stuff. Today’s lessons that Kane should really take to heart:
  1. Ship to South Carolina, obv
  2. Please make “winning” less of a chore so we don’t have to put it in quotes
  3. Good luck with your teeth, glennl I think that’s a threat so watch your six on release day

As far as I can tell, the only people not having a good experience are entitled cry babies who think they are entitled to a good experience. and screw those people.
And Kane did evolve. They see the direction the beer culture is going, the crowds, the parking, the other companies on the property, the hassle......and adjusted to that.
