I saved a local brewery from a disaster today.
I received an emergency call stating that their European system was down due to two problems, and flying in a repair crew would take too long.
They know I have a little knowledge of brewing and automation, and ask me for help.
The first problem was in the mill room with the grain mill.
The second problem was with the läuter tun's rake not turning.
With the help of a few beers, I was lucky to take care of the problems, and on Monday, a few batches can be brewed again.

Brewed up the house NEIPA this morning, which is right now going insane on proven kveiking slurry. Sent husband off to paint disposal event at local high school, he then hit up our local Grocery Outlet and besides street taco fixings (minus cilantro, I don't eat soap, yuck), brought home two different styles of 2 Towns Cider (Blueberry and Pog) as well as a sixer of Ecliptic Phasy IPA, and four different cans of Cascadian Outfitters wine. Mama's gonna have a GOOD night.

Painted a bunch of black pots white to plant hops in (so they stay cooler in the Texas Heat). Planted 1 huge centennial and 4 other medium centennial hops rhizomes. I have 5 medium Cascades and 20 smaller unidentified mixed B grade rhizomes to go. I had thought they were cascades but then remembered they were unlabelled. I bought them because the price was right (20 rhizomes for $21.99). Those are going to be a hoot. I will plant them all together and call them the "Mystery Grab Bag" hops. You never know what you will get. :)

My 100th batch in my 35L robobrew is a 6.5%ish cascadian ale. I rarely brew over 4%, but this is a bit special, and today i dry hopped it with 140g of Centennial ( 5gal ). Will get 5 days at 15c, and then i'll bottle.

Haven't dry hopped for a bottled beer for years. Threw them in a hop sock. Probably bottle on sunday.

Hoping for a big Centennial punch
I bottled this today, it smelt Dankalicious haha

I surprised they didn't just hire your brewing rig for a few weeks... ;)

As for me, the Twin Blades of Fury is now in the beer fridge. Testing assured that it's ready to drink.
 
What I'm doing for beer today! I returned home from a weekend trip to the beach and found significant damage to my hop plants. While I was away a storm came through with crazy winds that blew my hops around enough to snap the strings. All strings broken either at the top or bottom. Two larger Nuggets had latched onto the upper cross beam but everything needs attention. Pictured below you'll see my pride, a double bined Saaz with one bine laying on the ground. Doesn't appear to have damaged the hops although now I have to re-string them back up. And the trellis is 20 ft tall.

Got the last of the hops rhizomes in pots today. A total of 31 Rhizomes in 16 pots over the past couple days. 20- B Grade unlabelled hops, 5 Cascades, 1 Nugget, 5 Centennials. I should have gotten the other C hops too (Columbus and Chinook) as I'm told the C hops do better in this area.

Before leaving for work this morning poured a taster of the Cream Ale that needed 'fixing' due to an overabundance of acetaldehyde. Spent the day jonesing to get back home and enjoy a full glass; the fix worked, now it's just crisp and tasty with no nasty cidery tang. Nothing like a fresh tasty HB after a nasty day dealing with office politics!

Almost done with a trellis structure in my hop yard, though I need to shorten the cable and secure nylon cleats to fasten down. Of course I’ll have those things to do after Erin goes by. I’m planning a brew day soon for an event late September. I’d like to make an “Oktoberfest” ale, since there won’t be much time for lagering. Strawberry-rhubarb gose could also be a possibility.
 
Bottled (keg and counter pressure filler for storage reasons) a batch of the craft beer channels pastry stout. (Tldw is feeding it dextrose the first few days to preserve some of the more complex sugars as recommended by omnipollo)

I went with a simpler adjunct addition than the recommended hazelnuts or cinnamon and did lactose and coffee, cacao nibs and vanilla and did a small addition of toasted oak and amburana.

I usually like my pastrys (well ok, most of my beers) even stronger and thicker but this one was really solid. Well balanced roasted notes (without too much harshness) abv and sweetness. Thick but still easy to drink.

I went with the recommended dosages of the adjuncts. Perhaps a smidge too heavy on the coffe if anything. If I were to do it again I would up the cacao nibs and vanilla and go easier on the coffee. Its not by much though.

Started the day by kegging up an American Brown, Live At the Apollo, v2.0. cleaned up and ready for another brew day this weekend (planning a 16.5 gal batch of Irish Mocha Stout).

Then off to Arc3 to replenish the empty tank of beer gas. Was happy when I saw the 10 g size tank was just $31.95 for the refill. Yeah! It is a trek to get there but always the best price for gas locally in the Charlotte, NC area.

Brewers game starts in about 2 hours. Play ball!!!

Just kegged off the kinda Mannys clone that I'm taking to FF Draft on Saturday. Bit dryer than expected but quite tasty, will be better with carbonation. Considered using gelatin but I ain't trying to impress anyone; we drink out of red solo cups anyway. Looking forward to the first Draft where I brewed a request.

Bit proud of myself this morning. Took my Mannys clone to FF Draft yesterday, and came back with a very decimated keg; was superfull when I kegged it, now maybe about 1 gallon left. Everyone loved it, to the point that two of my friends made 'donations' to my brewery for it, which I tried to refuse but compromised by using it for my draft entry fee. Don't tell the taxman!
 
Ok I get a double whammy today. Last week brewed up the House NEIPA which is just about the simplest recipe ever; 12lbs two row mashed about 152, no hops until 5 minutes then again at flameout, and a biggish dry hop. All hops are even Citra/Sabro, and fermented on Imperial Kveiking very warm, about 85-90°. This time finally used the big mesh basket for the hops instead of a bag; meant more stirring to keep it from boiling over, but it was worth it. Poured a glass for the husband, after a couple of sips he said Yep, it's Sabrotooth (the name I've had for it since the first time I brewed it four years ago) but even more so. Quite proud of myself today.
 
Last weekend I re-rebuilt the engine on my '62 Beetle so I can more easily get it out of my way when brewing in the garage. It's not running yet, but it turns over now, which is a lot more than it could do after the first rebuild.

I had a beetle in 1975 and to change the alternator it said remove the engine. I lived on a street with no garden so I didn’t. Changing plugs was also a real challenge.

Not to derail the thread, but VW despite some great engineering had some stupid ideas. Had a 2002 Passat until about 3 years ago that required pulling the front end out just to replace the serpentine belt. Glad I got rid of the thing. Although I can now pull the front end without looking at the book.
 
Yesterday. While brewing,I got to thinking about my set up for my steam trap, I currently use a 5 gallon cooler, with ice water with a recirculation pump, to operate the steam trap, it works well,, i use a 35 gallon drum of 40 degree water cooled by an aquarium chiller to chill my wort via an emersion coil, I initially start on city water then use the ,"cold:;stuff to bring it down to 70 I had another emersion chiller/coil from my outdoor brewing days, so with a little modification, I incorporated the spare cooling coil into the steam trap cooler for the steam condenser , once the boil is over, I can switch the cooling lines to the cooling coil for the wort..it should work better than adding blocks of ice to the steam trap cooler- ill find out next weekend.
 
Swapped my backup CO2 tank yesterday morning. I tried to open it, but there was cold gas coming out the top, so I quickly closed it. Re-tightened everything, tried again, with the same result, but more gas escaping out the top. Took it to my LHBS where they confirmed gas escaping from just below the handle. That was the first time in multiple years of kegging I've ever had that happen.
