Blichmann herms coils are finally back in stock! Just got mine.

Unfortunately, they went up in price. But still a good deal.
Just a few more parts needed, and 240V run to my garage (💸), and I'll be ready to start brewing on an all-electric 3-vessel system!

i'm hoping this will hold 10 psi....but right now i just need tip on how to get bev post off the bulk head so i can get the floating dip in it? or did i just waste $80? but then what would be the point of a bev out bulkhead? lol

What is the diameter at the ledge? With that we can figure out the load on the lid at 10 PSI.

Brew on :mug:

i allready pressure tested it. it went up to 10 psi but my gas post is in a badly drilled hole and started leaking...but the opening is 10"

it dropped down to 6psi, then sat there steady for 10 or so minutes, i have the spunding thing i got to go along with it draining the pressure now....

That lid has an area of 78.5 sq in, so at 10 psi will have 785 lb of force pushing up on the lid. It will be exciting if the latches ever give out.

well assuming, ;), the 3/16" 304 SS clamps are 304 SS good for 840lbs, over 4000lbs breaking strength...and there's three of them so i'd imagine the pressure is distributed?

and all three straps have a folded loop...so like 840 times like a slightly weaker x6?

edit: i'm looking for opposing ideas here, not reassurance....but i'm not worried about the can blowing, because it's made of thicker stainless then a corny keg rated to 80 psi....and, yeah! if my thought of a saftey valve being the lid....i'm hoping that it just leaks out inbetween the clamps...if it gets much more then 10 psi....i'm betting, the lid would bend before the clamps blew....

edit #2: but i really wish it was imposible to pop one accidentaly.....it'd catch but, it'd probably hurt my knuckle and be LOUD!

i just want anyone considering a milk can fermenter...i fixed my leaky gas post, and it still will only hold 5psi.

Three clips around the circumference of the lid may not be enough to keep the lid from bowing slightly between the clips when under too much pressure. Or the clips themselves might have a little elastic deformation that causes a poor seal.

This is what it looks like in real life, I haven’t set up the second one to frame the window. The cord for the tall one is about 2” too short for the outlet.

So I’ll have to swirl the trunks with more strings.

If the image offends these neighbors, I’ll sleep happier.

Love the Kokopeli

It can take a while. I subscribed 8/30 and my first issue was December, which came in mid-November, 2.5 months after subscribing. 😥

That's funny, as it took less than a day for BYO to start spamming my inbox with promotional crap.

Well, it's only a 1 year sub, then I can let it run out. Just bought the magazine only.

Oh I know - the emails begin almost immediately. Hopefully it was just bad timing and your turnaround won't be as long as mine. Good mag, though; I enjoy it.

Forgot to post yesterday's which was a Spike temp coil for the CF10 and a couple other triclamp doo-dads.

Tonight I just opened up some Chevallier Maris Otter, Special B and some Nottingham yeast so I can make my oak aged Wee Heavy, which won first place in its category just before Covid kicked off. Hoping the competition happens this year so I can enter it again, along with a couple other brews I'm working on.

2 broken hydrometers from Cole-Parmer :(

They weren't packaged very well. At all. It might also not be a good time of year to order things that shouldn't be thrown around or have other boxes set on top of them.

Have of course notified them.
Nothing worse than not being able to break your own hydrometers!! (LOL)

No Cheers,
Joel B.

Sweet vac chamber sealer. Pulls a fairly high vacuum. Does it have an attachment to evacuate mason jars? My food saver does, but it only pulls about 20" vacuum, which is all but useless.
Unfortunately no it doesn't have an external port, but for sealing jars you can use a brake bleed hand pump to pull more than 20".

We had just burned up our 5th foodsaver type vacuum sealer, and realized by the time we bought a 6th one we could have invested in a chamber type sealer. My first thought was to look for a used commercial unit out of a restaurant but for the money this thing is a beast. I just "marinated" some fresh blackberries in a blackberry brandy along with some oak chips, ~6 months aging in 90 seconds. It's in the sonicator now smoothing out :)

Good idea about the brake bleed pump.

I buy Avid Armor's rolls of bag material on Amazon. A fraction of the cost of Food Saver brand rolls. Mostly use for pellet hops. I've bagged some specialty grains but the results have been spotty--the ends of grain kernels sometimes pokes through and it loses vacuum.

My FS sealer is still hanging in there. Thought about getting mylar rolls for long-term hops storage, but not sure of the FS will seal it effectively. Anyone had luck with that?

Buying rolls on amazon is how I came to know Avid Armor brand products. They sell non-embossed bags for chamber sealers that are much thicker than the food saver rolls. So far the only thing I had trouble sealing was a pound of star anise. Those things are pointy. Blew two bags then realized multiple layers might help. They are now sealed in a double bag, fingers crossed.

I've thought about getting a roll of those thicker bags, but don't think the FS will do a good job sealing. Your chamber sealer has adjustable seal time, which is nice.

For pointy stuff like grain, I started putting it in paper lunch bags, then seal inside vac seal bag. But I don't do it much. I go through grain, so just keep in ziplocs stored inside gamma buckets.

Didn't come in the mail yet but I ordered a 25kg sack of spelt malt yesterday and it's on it way already.

I only wanted to order about 5 kg to try it in a few NEIPA recipes.
Dam expensive basis malt when you only buy a small amount.
It was working out at around 3.50 to 4 € a Kilo.
So I just bought a whole sack for 38 € which is about 1.50 € a kilo.
I'm sure I'll find some use for it all :p
