I have been all about this album (and this song in particular) the last couple days.

Not many bands with this kind of lyrical depth.

Nothing that breathes is above betrayal.
Nothing that breathes is divine.

Out from the shadows, well-wisher.
The gleam of your blade gives you away.
Drawn from me, my smiling assassin,
Meet the blood that moved you-
The blood of encouragement
Spilling as common water.

They will serve you...

Long live the king.
Soak up to your arms in his blood.

Long live the king;
They will serve you well.

And you loyal friend, leave an ice pick in my neck as it were mine to keep.
How terribly cold.

I breathe, and count my shallow breaths.
Add another edge: Be sure to twist the blade.

If come one, come all of this, a celebration of treachery and scissored flesh.
Fall in, stain your steel in festive red-
Here, where the sheep are butchers.

A fresh patch of skin to pierce,
One cannot resist.

Unsteady steps.
Each waning, determined for purchase.
I am he who falters, stricken with one thousand blades.
With unsteady steps, I find my balance in deception.
Step by burning step.

Warm in the presence of malice.
Barefoot among a skulk of men.
Eyes ahead and taller still,
I never look back.
No.

I knew not your names.
I knew not your numbers.
I knew you all too well.

Two blades for every inch of flesh.
Ensanguined.
This is that which did not kill me.

There's always room for one more blade.
There's always strength for one last breath.

Not much a sight for sore eyes,
The harrowed form of living will:
Bent,
And black,
And so terribly cold.

Would love to see your 45 collection (I assume you have one).

Most of my 45s are old punk and Oi!. I'm lacking as many reggae 45s as I would like, as they're not particularly easy to come by. Most of my reggae albums are 12" represses because that's what I can find/afford. But yes, I have some.

When I was in Jamaica, I did manage to make it to a record shop. The guy asked me what I liked, and I told him that I really liked the older stuff that I had heard around the island, but didn't know any names.

He pulled out a pile of 45s and just started playing 30-45 second snips of each one. Then proceeded to tell me who the artist was, etc.

I didn't buy anything (no 45s anyway, he had CDs of most of it) and always kick myself for not buying the ones that he put in my 'dis white boy likes dis' pile.

Haha... You'd have had a field day in there, I'm sure. Wouldn't have lifted them though, nicest guy I met... Like genuinely nice, not 'resort nice.'

edit - David Byrne with Cafe Tacuba wouldn't post, so you'll have to check that out on youtube.

Here's some King Chango

The original Album.by The Band. (That's the name of the album too)

As for the person who is listening to "Coast to Coast" radio show. Stop!... It's not good for you.
