This weekend I'll be in the garage with an old friend, taking a second stab at rebuilding the engine on my '62 VW Beetle. Maybe it'll work this time .
Consequently I've had VWs on the brain a lot, so it only made sense to drop the needle (figuratively) on this one.

Ok, so when rock ruled the world there was WBCN in Boston. Along with importing the British Revolution, the station was liberal AF and an incubator for American talent. I was fortunate to grow up with WBCN in my life when my life was subject to the whims of a lottery (fwiw, I drew 256).

Aaanyway, they had a thing where a minute before straight up 12:00 noon they played a parody song of whatever hot number was rocking the charts, ending with a long sound of a fog horn at full throat. It was almost always hilarious and most of my friends would make a point of finding some way to listen to 104.1 FM for the "lunchtime song".

For awhile I would grab my cassette recorder and grab the audio with a craptastic handheld mike to whatever speaker happened to be playing the tune so I could share them with my buds if they had missed one. Of course all those recordings disappeared decades ago, but someone conveyed at least some of them to the interwebs.

Of course, context is everything: the songs parodied were from the 80s and early 90s, so...
