Hey all! I'm Dave and I'm new to the world of homebrewing and even relatively new to the world of Mead in general. Truth be told, ive manufactured my share of molecules and intoxicating substances but since I am not a huge drinker, never before now, alcohol. I do enjoy ciders (which I also plan to attempt to make) some spirits like vodka, some rums, white tequilas, even a bit of 👑 Royale in my Washington apples, but mostly wines. I likem like I like my women, cheap and sweet! (Joke! Please don't cancel me on post 1😅😆) I prefer sweeter rieslings. I doubt I'd even be accepted as a real wine drinker for that but its okay..I get it. Im no Connisouir nor do I claim to be.
so anyways, 2 years back, I was at a local chocolate expo and came across a booth with a banner which read "have you always wanted to be a viking?"
....yes..of ******* course I have! So I stopped at this booth and sampled 5 meads and I...was...hooked!
I find i often most enjoy traditional style meads as I have always been a honey lover. I also enjoy the malomels with Strawberry and cherry and meads that include hibiscus.
And in true "Me" style, it wasn't long before I wanted to make it and customize my stash for myself!. After some time learning on the internet, the wife bought me my first little 1 gallon carboy mead making kit!
I'm actually part way into my first batch! Started jan 7th. Yes I am learning that is a long time for a 1 gallon but its literally stayed bubbling away at 1 to 2 bubbles per 10 second period the whole time...maybe the yeast population was too low? Idk but I haven't lost hope and am just being patient and seeing what happens.
In the mean time, ive grabbed a 6 pack of half gallon jars, plastic lids with air locks, yeast packets and a sack of fermaid o. I bought a hydrometer set up and im ready to start experimenting! Looking forward to learning and sharing my journey and experiments with yall!
Ps, yes I do enjoy some of the bigger mead channels on YouTube INCLUDING the ones that make silly stuff like mountain dew into "wine"😆. I love the creative side and I do plan to try a few weird ones myself down the line 😁
