BTW guys, Booming Rollers is on draft down at the Fermentorium for league-exclusive growler fills before the cans are released on March 1st.
According to their FB post today cans are available at the brewery and will go out to distro next week. Can't ******* wait.

They list Motueka, and centennial for the home brew recipe they provide.

Tasting Notes:
Prometheus Effect - 4.25 - Blend of saison aged in amphora for a couple months and saison aged in red wine barrels for just under a year. Nose has a nice blend of funk and mild acidity. Classic funky saison profile up front on the palate with backing acidity, long finish of soft stone fruits and mild barnyard. Moderate body, a bit fuller than you might expect - due to the amphora aging, per Jacob/Andrew - but didn't feel heavy. Based on the taster, this is the best funky saison MT has done yet.

Monsters' Park in Spanish Brandy Barrels - 4.5 - Spent roughly nine months in barrels vs. six months for the original batch. Dark fruits, dates, pleasant but mild sherry oxidation, and light tobacco on the nose. Mild heat and dark fruits on the attack give way to a broad grape character and sweet dark chocolate. As usual for BA MP variants, it does a great job of capturing the specific barrel character without murdering the base beer. If the person who was looking for a food pairing recommendation is here, flourless chocolate cake with a whipped mascarpone topping seems like it would be a slam dunk. Steven's suggestions of almond cake or mascarpone ice cream both sounded like great choices as well.

Monsters' Park in Spanish Brandy Barrels w/ Figs & Cocoa - 4.5 - Adjuncts were black figs and Ghanaian cacao nibs. Really good choices on the adjuncts in my book, did a nice job of softening the rough edges of the base without covering the brandy character. Nose of rich cocoa and background figs, touch of marshmallow. None of the heat from the base on the front of the tongue, just a rich chocolate character with figs floating in the background. Long finish of chocolate and brandy.

Asteroid Cowboy - 4 - Kettle soured IPA, brewed with spelt, fermented with house cultures, dry-hopped with Mosaic and other hops that they couldn't specifically recall. They're looking to have this available at the brewery and very limited distro. Nice nose that shifts between hop aromatics, Brett character, and tartness. On the palate, the Mosaic hops are evident but not dominant and it pairs nicely with the moderate acidity and some of the tropical artifacts of their house Brett cultures. Bottle conditioning elevates it slightly from its draft format for those who have tried it. Also curious to open a Comet Rider and see how it compares at this point.

Palace of Cracked Heads - 4.5 - Abandon all subtlety ye who enter here. Nose is pretty much a face full of nectarine - skin, flesh, juice - just an absolute blast of stone fruit with some background funk. Palate opens up with the base beer, malty and acetic, giving way to a big dose of fruit and a long nectarine-centric finish. I still prefer the blonde-base sours but I would also consider this a slight step up from the original batch of PoCH.

Cheers to Jacob, Andrew, and Steven on another great tasting and round of bottles.

Great notes! Thanks for the write up. I was pretty sure I would max MP Spanish. Prometheus now has my interest. You say "...best funky saison..." Would you consider it more a clean saison with some tartness, or more of a full sour saison with a dominant Brett character?

Also pasted your notes to the FB league group Xul and stated that they weren't mine. I think I have tried to invite you in there once, but you might pull out your hair at some of the questions that occasionally pop up.

Is it a rule that membership facebook groups have to have at least 2 stupid questions per release? Seems about average for the ones I am in.

It is mostly those that use the group as an official location to ask questions when it is just technically a fan group even though the league coordinator is in it and does answer questions. While most questions do get answered, quick searches would show the answer was already provided previously (usually a day or two prior). But they are also reminded to email in as that would be official.

I would say a clean saison with tartness. It was not overly sour.
Yeah, definitely closer to a clean saison with some tartness, albeit with a lot of Brett character, rather than a full-blown sour saison. Kind of a muddled description I guess but it's most akin to a Brett saison, with the natural acidity that comes along with many interpretations of that style.

If you did, I missed it, but I'm a glutton for punishment. Invite me again and I'll certainly lurk in there.

Done and done...don't let it become another reason to drink a beer...otherwise you would probably be out of beer in a few weeks.
I'm well stocked...skimming through it, it's not as bad as SD Beer Friends, so that's a plus.

I'm still slightly fascinated that someone thought the 2016 challenge coin should still be good, though. That's an impressive one.

I actually think it should, assuming we go by ranking and that 2016 was the first..it should over-power the 2017. But that is taking the coin challenge rules verbatim pretty much and ignoring the whole "rules can change based on the organization" part.

So can my OG League hoodie overpower the 2016 coin? Not that I ever wear that hoodie but the point stands.

And in the context of normal challenge coins, that makes sense, but the roots don't lie in yearly membership style programs where people will drop out. I actually have zero interest in the coin and have never challenged anyone, but it seemed fairly clear to me that it would always be predicated on the current year's coin due to the nature of the League.

I forgot you were the OG of OGs. I saw the Kickstarter and the language in it made me think it would never take off, so I declined to help. Sucks I missed out, but super glad I was way wrong.

I think I am batting .500 for challenges right now, and it is only back to even because some of the new recruits tried to get me at Alesmith when they saw my non-OG sweater. It is fun, and I only ever ask for a taster, and it always turns into a 30min convo about beer/life/why the **** is this brewery so far and why does traffic suck to get here during the week.
