So can my OG League hoodie overpower the 2016 coin? Not that I ever wear that hoodie but the point stands.

And in the context of normal challenge coins, that makes sense, but the roots don't lie in yearly membership style programs where people will drop out. I actually have zero interest in the coin and have never challenged anyone, but it seemed fairly clear to me that it would always be predicated on the current year's coin due to the nature of the League.
I lost my hoodie and OG Growlers

Does my velvet portrait overpower your OG hoodie?
which one is yours?

i seemed to remember talk a while back about MT trying to create some special tier/classification for OG kickstarter backers within the League... not sure if that is still being considered, but it would be cool to recognize the handful of us who have been supporters from those early days.... maybe they can just give us some shares in the company and call it even :p

Assorted Notes:
1) The League-exclusive keg for Festival of Funk will be Transit of Venus aged in red wine barrels w/ strawberries and lemon zest. Sounds really damn good.

2) May's preview tasting will allow members to bring a +1 for the first time. Start auctioning the spot to your friends now because I get the impression it's going to be a very good tasting.

Tonight's Beers:
Crucible of the Spirit Dragon - 4.25 - Barrels were second fill pinot noir, previously home to another funky saison. Nose was vinous up front with moderate acidity and funk and a citrusy dry hop lurking in the background. Palate heavier on the funk up front, giving way to assertive hop character - fruity and floral - before a long, mildly acidic finish.

Devil's Teeth in Schmernheim Durum's Barrels - 4.25 - Twelve months in barrels. Nose with dark caramel and toffee, leather, and subtle but rich dark fruits. No heat on either the nose or palate which was impressive. Whiskey heavy on the front of the palate that gives way to sweet caramel and soft wheat notes along with baker's chocolate. Very dry all the way through the finish, very well integrated. Good barrel treatment but it's a bit more finesse than some of the bigger, brasher single barrel DT and MP variants.

Devil's Teeth in Rye Barrels w/ Walnut & Vanilla - 4.5 - Fifteen months in barrels whose brand rhymes with "millet." Big nose of dry, roasted nuts with backing cocoa and vanilla, along with a bit of subtle rye spice. Palate opens up with dark chocolate and assertive but not dominant vanilla, giving way to the dry nutty character. This drinks well right now, but I'm mighty curious to see what time would do if the walnuts drop out just a touch and allow the vanilla to shine through a bit more.

Monsters' Park in Tequila Barrels (2016) - 4.25 - Enjoying this more than I did on release, time has tamed some of the heat and created some interesting flavor combinations. Nose is strong tequila over rich chocolate that mentally combines to form peanut brittle (Steven pointed out that Luke had called that flavor combo and once you hear it, you can't smell anything else). Nice, thick mouthfeel but drier than most other MP variants. Flavor of dark chocolate, mild agave, and salty peanuts into peanut brittle on the nose. If you slept on this last year, I'd recommend contemplating a bottle, it's the sort of beer that might really surprise you.

Shrine of the Forsaken Gods - 4.75 - If you've ever been skullfucked with a bushel of raspberries, you know what this beer is like. If not, you should probably buy this beer and find out what that experience entails.

Damn, that's what I was hoping to hear about the JK collab. Going to be super poor after this week.

Modern Times, running QC on beers up until the morning they send out the sale emails. And they were not happy with one so they pulled it from the sale. Big props to that.

I think it's the: DEVIL'S TEETH AGED IN SCHMERNHEIM DURUM'D BARRELS(sorry for yelling, didn't want to retype).

At least they are catching the infections before it goes on sale now instead of weeks later and then offering a measly gift card in exchange. Good on you MT.

Besides a gift card, what else are they suppose to do?

Saw a post about another local brewery and one of their hyped stouts and the brewer simply said, "yeah, there are definitely bad bottles of this one out there still" or something along those lines.

I think cutting a check would be ideal personally. Gift cards can't be spent on the same limited release beer that you bought that was infected. You can only get "shelf" beers or pours of common beers at the brewery with it. I really do wish they had more of their limited stuff on tap but it seems every time I go there its just the stuff I can buy in stores. Maybe I am just unlucky.

Fair point.

It's definitely a bummer getting stuck with an "off" or infected bottle.

As far as the tasting room goes, they had tons of BA and limited offerings on for a while. As of late though, they seem more IPA heavy, which I don't mind, ha.

You are unlucky. I have never gotten a gift card since I never took back a bottle but was paid with a gift card from Niku when I had an extra bottle he needed. I used mine for 2 pours and a fill of a limited release beer.

I think I have been to the tasting room four times (so a very small sample size). The only non shelf beer I have had was the coffee dark lager. They did have a couple on site bottles for league members though. I do like that the gift cards can be used for merchandise and coffee, so that is a plus.

What are you even talking about? They always have a wealth of non-shelf bottles at the brewery.
