The differences between Double Sunshine, Heady, and Abner are just as big as the differences between Pliny, Sculpin, and Duet. There is nothing special about the IPAs being made by those breweries, they're very similar (except Heady with its silly yeast) to ones being made elsewhere in this country and in other countries. If you disagree then you're ignorant.

I could not possibly disagree more with what you're saying.

The Alpine IPAs I've had in bottles were delicious, but not like that at all. If growler/draft is different, I'll take your word for it as I've never had the pleasure. To this day I haven't had one like that outside of New England. I'm staking no claim to them being the first, etc., but just defining the term.

Except Heady ******* sucks.

I think you're putting too much emphasis on "hazy". The fact that Heady looks more or less like bleached diarrhea doesn't really make it different from other IPAs that taste similar.

I really like how the Heady vs. Pliny argument is still alive, just morphed into a slightly different sort of argument.
As someone who lives between CA and VT, I have to say that they are both great, and both CA and VT make great IPAs, but the newer style is not regional. It's just "the new style" of IPAs. The 3 big IPA producers in VT just happen to be newer breweries who brew almost exclusively in this style.

Sure, but they're a brand new brewery. An IPA is an IPA is an IPA. I particularly dislike the notion of region-specific IPA styles.
We are talking exclusively American IPAs right? Cause English ones taste very different.

Well, except for Liverpoolian IPAs of course. But I think we all know that.

What the hell is a Liverpoolian?
What the hell is a Liverpoolian IPA?

maybe I am missing a joke or something?

Yeah, he means "Liverpudlian".

Liverpudlian IPAs are hot right now

they are? any examples. I haven't been 'home' for a year, but nothing blew my mind last time I was in Liverpool, nothing local anyway.

ah ok - no, it's a joke satirizing the Vermont IPA discussion.
Missed the reference as I am the A-typical 'Liverpoodlian' who is semi paranoid about any reference to Liverpool...its a thing I guess. pick any city but Liverpool and I don't look dumb......********. ;)

I just realized... the "re-issue" or whatever the **** they're calling the second chance to pre-order these ******* beers is $3 extra with none of the original incentives.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA **** stone.

I could kind of understand the methodology if they had provided new information on the beers they are releasing. Similar to how early bird tickets for concert festivals are the cheapest, but they often don't have any of the lineup, whereas tickets available after the lineup is announced are more expensive, but there is really no added value or information with this.

Sure, but they're a brand new brewery. My point was that "low carb, hazy, soft mouthfeel, low bitterness" IPAs have been brewed for decades in San Diego (and elsewhere, I'm sure). It's not a Vermont thing. An IPA is an IPA is an IPA. I particularly dislike the notion of region-specific IPA styles.

I'm quoting so I can like this some more

Wait, did they just confirm these will hit retail? That's hilarious.

So I'll save the airfare for flying to SD to pick this **** up and pick it up off the shelf for a mere $5 markup or some ****. Assuming any of them are worthwhile.

Hahaha hahahahaha. So all these uber special beers will just end up in retail anyway.... But at a few bucks more!

I'm pretty sure that if instead of supporting Stone's pre-sale ********, you took that $30 the magnum cost you and invest it in something that isn't a Stone interest free loan, that you'd at least triple the amount of money by the time these collaborations are finally ready in 2016-2017

It's hilarious that they talk about the early worms getting the benefits of all that added **** when they were constantly updating, changing and otherwise tweaking this out. Remember what happened to that famed Team Stone one day discount?

To be clear when Stone is talking about these beers seeing retail they are not talking about them (Stone) putting them (the 1.5l bottles) on shelves but retailers that bought cases of them putting them on their (the retailers) shelves or smaller 750s

Stone said:
Will any of these beers be available for retail purchase later on?

Anyone, including distributing companies and retail operations, can purchase the beers during the campaign at the same price as the general public. There is no way for us to police who purchases the beers via this platform. However, if it should end up being resold at a retail establishment, it will have traveled from Distributor to Retailer and gotten marked up along the way, thus the Retailer will be selling it at a substantially higher price (that’s how the beer biz generally works). Additionally, it’s possible these beers will be available in different, non-commemorative bottles containing only 750 milliliters of beer versus the 1.5 liters those who purchase the beers now on Indiegogo will receive.

actually it does sound like Stone might sell some of these bottles for retail, you just won't get the nifty 1.5L bottle

yeah,t he quoted part specially says that it just wont be in 1.5 ml bottle, Which when it comes to WootStout or any other high abv beers, is probably a better option anyway.

Stone already marked up the price $3 for a second chance sell. Which still does feel completely wrong considering these are 2-3 years away.

Oh and hey, they decided to do another Holiday collaboration with Jolly Pumpkin and NogneO and this stupid thing is about to hit 2 million for the most unorganized pulled out of his ass crowd funded plan.

Stu, I poured this Night Shift Morph and instantly thought of your comment. I think Night Shift used more bleach than The Alchemist though. (Pretty tasty beer surprisingly)

New message from Stone today:

"We want your thoughts about something related to these special beers.

Some of our collaborators want to purchase cases, but it seems uncool for us to make them pay in advance for beers that they're going to help us make. We didn't think about that when we created the program, and we basically promised that the only way ANYONE could get bottles at these prices would be to buy “beer futures” via our Indiegogo campaign.

We’d like to allow our collaborators to buy cases of their collaboration beers without having to pay for them in advance like everyone else. They’d pay the same price, but not until the cases are shipped to them. Would you be cool with that?

Please use the Comments section here on our Indiegogo page to let us know what you think."

So it's ok to ask us to fund the beers years in advance but it's "uncool" to ask the contributors to do the same? Honestly I don't know if anyone would have even expected the contributors to have to buy into their own beers, so asking people seems so much weirder than just not asking.

They're charging the other breweries for the beer they're helping make?

Cause that's not tacky.

That's like me inviting you over to help me bake some cookies for a charity bake sale (which this basically is) and not letting you lick the spoon without paying.

But at least you don't have to pay to lick the spoon until the cookies are done, as opposed to everyone else who has to pay in advance before the cookies are created with the promise that they will be tasty and exclusive
