Tried finding an answer to this, but couldn't, so I'm posting it.

Am I going to run into any problems underfilling a 5 gallon keg? I usually make 2.5 gallon batches of beer, so I don't want to keg it in a 5 gallon keg if that's going to cause problems, but I don't want to buy a smaller keg because I sometimes do 5 gallon batches. Any ideas? Experience with this?

No problems. After the first beer, the keg is always partially full anyway. :)

If you do that shake-carb method, be very careful though. All that extra surface area will speed CO2 absorption.

Yeah I've done this a few times. No problem other than you have to use a bunch more CO2 when you purge and pressurize the keg.
