Fermentation chamber heating?

Hey everyone - my seed mat came. Question: do people tape it to the side of their ferm chamber, or, put it on the bottom with the fermenter on top?

I'm switching from glass carboys to a SS bucket (4 legs), but don't want the weight to ruin the mat.

I don't think you should put the fermenter on top. I have mine in a lower.rack in the fridge/chamber. Circulation is not ideal, but it still gets the job done.

Around the fermenter or loosely beside seems like a great idea, I'll try that. Much simpler than what I was thinking. Thanks!!

I usually bungee cord it around the fermentor but sometimes I just leave it loose in the chamber and I haven't been able to determine if it makes a difference yet.
Posted twice by accident...see second post below.

That is the same one I use and it works great - even when I want to keep the chamber 95F for a kveik.
Reviving this. Trying to decide on the seed mat or reptile bulb myself. I have a 5 or 7cu ft freezer as my fermentation chamber. I've used a light bulb before, but maybe had light strike and wanted something to avoid that.

What size seedling mat did you use? I was wondering if the 10"x20" 17.5W would be enough to heat the space or would I need the bigger 20"x20" 45W one. I was also considering using a 50W reptile bulb, but wasn't sure what would be better.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

I use seedling mats both to grow seedlings and to ferment with. The 10x20 matts seem to run up to 20 watts or so and I can get my tomato and pepper seedlings up to 85F with those in temps of 60s or so I'd say offhand. And I've cooked a kolsch in a carboy up to around kviek temps by accident, somehting was wrong with the settings on a new temp controller. I don't think you would need the 20x20 at all inside an insulated chamber. You can also often get a decent deal on a pair of 10x20 mats and then you would have an extra one if you needed it.

I scrolled back up to see if I had responded previously. I have a few more Inkbirds and about 5-6 more seedling mats since I posted last. I used all the matts in the greenhouse this year to start seeds.

I'll try just the 10x20 one and hope it does the job. I don't need super hot and it's insulated space. I have a usb fan in there for circulation and it'l be safer than the light bulb from before without the light strike too

I use a 10x20 but if I was buying now, I would probably go with this 20x20 since it is only $2 more.
