You can play around with the slurry tab on the mrmalty calculator. You can set the "harvest date" back to different dates and see what the viability is on the yeast. For example, if you set it back to 1 month from today, it shows the viability as 45%. When you set it back 2 months, the viability is 10%, so that might give you some insight as to how long you can keep it around.
 
Search for the thread on yeast washing. You'll learn the exact steps ( pictures included) to show you how to properly harvest yeast & prepare it for long term storage.
 
also according to chris white(white labs yeast geek) co2 prodution in storage will further detiorate your yeast and that when transfering yeast into a growler or other vessel it will cause the yeast to produce some co2. so make sure you vent the container in the fridge a couple times a day for a few days.
