So I came across this neat device that is a hand held spectrometer and when I saw one of their example apps showed ABV of a drink I thought of the potential for homebrew use. I messaged them about it and got the following response:

Great question!

Although we haven't yet developed that application, it is our intention to develop (ourselves or by 3rd party) applications for home brewing. We have tested for alcohol level but not yet for specific gravity. Based on our experiments we have a good reason to believe that SCiO will be very useful for home brewers. We encourage you to be among the firsts to influence the development of home brewing application - please support our project.

So I decided to get in on one!:mug: Thought it would be useful for everyone else too, so here's the link if anyone else wants to check it out or get on board:

Not sure how it'll work out for homebrewing, but I'm backing it for all the other great stuff it looks like it'll do. I wonder if it would work to analyze AA of hops that have been stored, if so it'd be more accurate than a hop storage calc.

I am a skeptic. Some of those timelines are really quick, and I question some of the science. If a sensor, even an expensive one could do what this is promising big labs would not have nearly as much gear as they do.
