This is probably gonna be the stupidest question ever asked on these forums... but hey... ill ask it anyway. My mind wanders to some strange places when im at work... and heres what i came up with last night.

Probably a human carboy is the best way to describe what i was thinking.

Now... if someone were to drink a heap of wort (or even just water and sugar for that matter)... and then down some liquid yeast. Apart from probably feeling pretty sick, what would happen?

Would fermentation happen? or would the stomach acid kill the yeast? Would your BAC increase above 0.00 at all... even just the slightest bit?

Told ya it was a bloody stupid question... but couldnt resist asking anyway...

You'd fart all day and want to commit suicide because of the smell.

Yes, that is the stupidest question I've heard in a long time. And I have teenagers at home and trainees at work.

I think you should try it and let us know what happened, maybe a ten gallon batch, of course you'd have to have a big active starter too

I would actually like to know what happens to live yeast when we ingest it. My hypotheses is that our digestive tract is a way too hostile environment for it and it is killed before it can ferment anything.
I think that that much yeast would make you sick though.:drunk:

Nothing would happen short of giving you a bad case of the Hershey-squirts...and that'll be from the malt alone.

Your body can't hold that much liquid and the environment is not stable as in a fermenter.

It's not a stupid question as much as it's rediculous.

I can't imagine liquid yeast would be able to survive passage through the stomach, so you might have to compress some Nottinham or Safale-05 into suppository form... :D

That's never going to work, and I'll tell you why. 98º is too high of a pitching temperature, unless you're using a belgian strain or something like that. Can you get your core body temperature down to 68º or so? You'd also have to eat a lot of belgian candi sugar too.

"The term auto-brewery syndrome has been frequently used to describe patients who show features of alcohol intoxication because of abnormal yeast proliferation after ingesting carbohydrate-rich meals."

More or less restricted to Asians.
