Their best beers are par. Extremely Angry Beast is well worth it.Why does everyone on here hate Clown Shoes? I've had some really solid BA stouts from them.

Fraaash mint? Herbal.Wat?
I can understand that, but mint has, like, ZERO similar flavor characteristics to basilFraaash mint? Herbal.
That one was good too. Ferrand Billionaire was another.Clown shoes hammer of the holy B1 was just that. Everything else is par. I think it is available and affordable. There is an 'eternal september' happening in craft right now that is perpetuating available affordable at par beers. That is great. It is the ONLY thing keeping this ****** wheel rolling.
********. We grow both. Soft scents (no perv)I can understand that, but mint has, like, ZERO similar flavor characteristics to basil
Either you or I were too drunk for that one (me) I thought it was meh. I'll take your word for it, knowing your posts. #mancrushThat one was good too. Ferrand Billionaire was another.

Well that's just not true. Basil is in the mint family, and old basil (like the stuff you buy in a jar at the grocery store) can basically just taste like faded mint. I've stopped putting it on pizza because it just tastes like mint to me.I can understand that, but mint has, like, ZERO similar flavor characteristics to basil
Different basil tastes different (Italian, vs purple, vs thai). Thai is more minty to me.Well that's just not true. Now, saying fresh basil tastes like mint? That's some crazy talk. I can see saying the flavor has some similar characteristics to mint, because, yeah, it's in the mint family, but you'll never get it confused with spearmint or something.
I always found Thai basil to taste very licoriceyDifferent basil tastes different (Italian, vs purple, vs thai). Thai is more minty to me.
My mother's maiden name is Battistoni. There is only Italian basil!Different basil tastes different (Italian, vs purple, vs thai). Thai is more minty to me.
I made thai basil pesto once. Was a pain in the ass harvesting all those tiny leaves. Purple basil is my favorite. So pretty with all those purple leaves.I definitely get mint and licorice from thai basil, which is completely different than italian basil.
Has anyone made a thai basil stout? Would probably be better than most mint stouts.
Not saying it's a dead ringer or that you'd confuse one for the other. Just similar characteristics that don't really work in a stout for me.Well that's just not true. And I agree fresh mint tastes like old basil. Not saying it's a dead ringer or that you'd confuse one for the other. Just similar characteristics that don't really work in a stout for me.
Was tasty. But certainly a beer for circumstance, not regular quaffing. Wish it were in 375ml bottles insteadWhile we're on the subject, anyone try the SpontanBasil from Linemans/Mikkeller? I had it last night, and the basil flavor worked great with the gueuze.
