Can't wait for them to start their side project brewery: Whoosh Hatted

If that's typical of the stores down by you then the amount of Tropicalia that you drink and send out just got much more impressive.

I just drive to Athens when I have an afternoon off. Hour drive one way, and some good beer bars to get lunch at to find some stuff that you likely can't find in Atlanta. So much easier than trying to sit in a ton of traffic, and hit 4 different shops just to get a ******* case.

What in the actual ****. That is not beer that is soup. This **** is getting out of hand. And yes, people are earnestly commenting on this: "that looks delicious!". Give me some crystal clear Blind Pig or FW ipa over anything that looks like this, please.
Gnarly disgusting. I have been a little turned off that some of the murky New England IPAs have a quarter to half inch of trub at the bottom of the glass when poured. The pic you have here might as well be day 3 of primary, full 1318 in suspension and a hearty grist.

It's like eating a vegemite sammitch and drinking a beer at the same time! Might as well snort a line of Hop kief and take a shooter of a smack pack while you are at it.

Honestly at this point I think some of the pro-haze people are just bad as the anti-haze people when it comes to their heuristics. Any decline in opacity seems to be immediately met with kneejerk complaints that the mouthfeel isn't right or it's not as good as usual, just as for the anti people any degree of haze is met with complaints that the beer is unfinished. And of course there's no point at which a beer becomes too turbid for at least some of the haze-inclined. I thought JulianB nailed it the other day:
Too many breweries out there are deliberately and borderline-artificially trying to recreate the HF/Vermont/Northeast "look". To me an HF or Trillium IPA has a uniform haziness that's really appealing to the eye, which is way different than this chicken soup type appearance some breweries are going for where the beer looks like muddy keg dregs.
I also thought this was a pretty good overview of the turbidity debate with quotes from brewers on both sides: http://craftbeercellar.com/blog/2015/09/cloudy-with-a-chance-of-turbidity/

I'm assuming you get the emails from Bier Cellar. Looks like you can find out how it tastes of you want to...

As fate would have it, I received a box from a BIF with this beer in it tonight. Perceptions to come shortly once it's cold enough...

Good read, thanks for sharing.

Well, after all the conversation about this beer today seems timely I received a 4 pack of em today to my surprise.

It's early, but I am certain that this is far from a daily driver. Mouthfeel is kind of slick, like the body is approaching some state between liquid and solid. Crazy hoppy, pleasant aroma with some serious esters. Kind of numbs the tongue it's so heavily hopped. I am left with a lot of questions.

Tried that exact beer at a share last weekend. It was good. I'd buy it if I lived there.

I would venture to say the taste was somewhat appealing to me- a little more hop bag piney spiciness from dry hip saturation than I am used to with commercial brews, but I get why people dig it. The almost sliminess from matter in suspension put me off. I can understand people liking it, especially in markets outside of New England, but found it a bit much.

Anyone have beer recs for Hawaii? Two nights in Honolulu and then several days on the big island.
Trying to recall spots we hit after Big Island Brewhaus. Most places weren't especially great on Kauai (I realize you're not going there) or the Big Island and we only spent two nights in Oahu. There was a pretty good spot we stumbled on with a decent selection, but they weren't a brewery. Here's a list of some spots that came up (oh wow I can google!) https://foursquare.com/top-places/honolulu/best-places-craft-beer
But aside from the occasional one off I didn't have anything too amazing. All of this said, the best beer I did have was a seasonal mandarin chocolate stout at Big Island Brewhaus that was pretty good and the food was pretty awesome. Oh, and it was situated in the most beautiful place I have ever been to. Enjoy :)

I like Kauai Beer Co.

Maui Brewing is awesome, especially the new location in the south part of the island. Great bottle shop with good poke near the airport, too.

While we are all discussing the merits of terrible unfiltered IPA's, let's not forget what basically drove Pretty Things out of business.

Would love to see this shiit enforced in Chicago.
Amen to that. Won't happen though. Chicago corruption is why we have the three tier system. Fixed that.

I always thought it was their beer not being that good and no one really buying it being the things that basically drove them out of business?

We went to Hawaii last year for our honeymoon. We didn't get to stop at Kauai Beer Co. but we went to Kauai Island Brewery and Grill. They gave us a tour, which wasn't much, when we told them we were homebrewers. Very nice people and the food was good.

Definitely agree about Maui. The brewery was very cool and life size Connect Four was awesome.
