Hey guys, just a bit worried somethings up with my yeast. I just brewed a SMASH finished at 1060. Popped some mangrove jacks M44 west coast yeast in. First time i have ever used this yeast. Came back to check on fermenter about 3 hours after pitching and it looks quite strange. Never seen a beer like this in the fermenter. It’s quite clear except for what looks like a huge hot break in fermenter. Any ideas what’s up? I know it’s only been a few hours but iv never seen a beer so clear in the fermenter and combined with such a huge mass in the middle. I’m fermenting a bit cooler at 18 degrees do not sure if that’s what’s up.

Most likely what you are seeing is cold break. Sometimes the cold break settles to the bottom right away, sometimes it gets suspended until the yeast activity stirs it up.

Cheers man, after I posted i was actually thinking I jumped the gun with this post and tried to delete.

Hey sorry here’s pics, iv never seen it like this before but I usually brew late enough in the day so I don’t really check fermentation till the next day, maybe I’m not use to seeing this stage of the process

This just looks like a regular old
fermentation now, moral of the story. Relax and let the yeast do it’s thing

Ive seen this with use of irish moss or whirlfloc.
Dont worry. Youl probably have a very nice clear beer when its done
It’s a 1gallon batch and I did use quite a bit of whirfloc. It was just over a 1/4 of a tablet. I usually cut the tablets into 4 pieces as I do mainly 1 gal batch’s, I’ll post the final beer when it’s done.
