so im making an oatmeal stout. recipe says to steep the grains for 15 mins. that seems reallly short to me! is it bad if i steep longer?

Steep as long as you like. 30-60 minutes was my norm. Oatmeal (especially if they're quick oats) do convert faster.
 
thast what i thought. ive always done 45 mins. this hase about a oupnd and a half of grains and a pound of oats. so im just curious what you guys thought. thanks
