Anyone with experience aging Vigneronne have thoughts on the best time to open a cellared one? I've only had it fresh.

Got a 2012 Vigneronne that I'm not sure how long I want to cellar. Had 2012 St. Lam recently it was doing great. So, I'm wondering if the same would hold true for Viggy.
I had a 2012 Vig at Grote Dorst a couple months back and it wasn't very pleasing. Quite acidic IMO. Given this was at Grote Dorst I assume it was aged properly

Personal preference: st lam ages better, vig can get really acidic, but not always. Just more of a crap shoot with older bottles.

I really love Vig right around 3 years in the bottle.

As always, YMMV
Agree with this completely. Had a '14 Vig recently that I wasn't blown away by though. Of course, we opened it next to a '13 St. Lam which we all thought was drinking incredibly.

14 Vig is the low/no carb batch.

I've had one that was amazing, and 2-3 that were just awful. Vig has really been hit or miss lately. The 2015 I tried was ungodly sour.

I only had 1 '14 Vig and it was perfect. Granted, I've only had Vig 3-4 times total, but it was far and away my best experience with it.

Edit: and while I'm just randomly interjecting, the '15 Lam I opened a few weeks back was not good at all. Very, very blah. I plan on letting my other one sit for a year or two.

We opened a 2014 Vig in April that I got from buzzword and it was excellent. Light carb (not flat but not agressive either - nice and soft), not overly sour, great balance of fruit and funk. If some 14s are bad, I'm glad Walt sent a good one!

Interesting. Opened a '15 Lam two weeks ago and loved it. Over the past month I've opened a '13, '14, and '15 with various people. '13 and '15 were great and I was less impressed with the '14. The '14 was American label, so no idea if that has any difference (probably not).

What was wrong with the Lam? I opened one recently and it smelled like fart. Cleared up after pouring a glass and letting it sit

Sorry guize, I just can't get behind this St Lam vs Vig meme. I love them both regardless of age (fresh or 10+ years, it don't matter none) - or have I just been lucky with bottles? Also IMHO there is no "weak vintage" St Lam/Vig, these two have been their most consistent seasonals for at least the past 5 years.

Bottom line, will trade Swedish shelf beers for any St Lam/Vig you don't like. I'm just that generous!

It was tough to quantify exactly. There weren't any apparent off flavors, but it was more a complete lack of flavor. There was no fruit component to the taste. It was also basically still. All my previous experiences with St. Lam have been wonderful. I think it was just a case of bottle variation.

blckout20 and I had one of these lackluster '15 St Lams a couple weeks back. First less than remarkable experience I have had with what is otherwise my favorite beer. Pretty much exactly as described above.

XP from the Belgium Travel Thread.

Was in Brussels Friday & Saturday and didn't get a chance to make it to 3F's bottle shop.

A&G released into the wild and I don't find out about it until I am home. Ugh.
