Yes, 2004. It stood out amongst the crowd for everyone I think. Had everything I loved from the Zomer we drank a little bit before but the nose was more intense and felt the musty/citrus flavor and body were on a slightly higher level
Interesting, I've heard that those have some real variance, but there are some cork issues (a friend lost ~1/3 of this bottle in the trip overseas) so maybe shipping exacerbates that and the ones that stay over don't see it.

That dude is the biggest ****** in Rochester. He strips our shelves of everything and then tries to trade it locally for out of market stuff. He bought Mexican Cake at every store in town (he doesn't actually even live in Rochester) and when he got called out said "it was for friends who were at work during the day"... 10 minutes later FT: Mexican Cake ISO: Out of State Brewery Only Stouts.

He took this week off and traveled all over the north east looking for tradeable beer.

He sucks.

Rochester didn't get any Spontanbasil or Kriek yet :( I had to order mine from overseas. Based on that picture there's some a couple of hours away though (that has to be Lewis Brothers Market in Horseheads NY)

It's all over in Utica, would have happily done a GPIUFMB. Just ask next time my man!

Damn. Did an IP trade with him last week when he was down in RVA. Seemed like a decent enough guy, but could tell he was more than likely a noob who was just trying to "win" trades. He did brag about meeting some dude in PA while on his trip, and buying a Cantillon GCB for like $50, which I thought was odd in context of the conversation.

I've heard he's okay in person from several people. One of the guys in my tasting group had a smooth IP trade with him and makes fun of me for getting so annoyed by him.

He's a giant pain in the ass in Rochester FB groups. He clears shelves, and parades around like he's the king of beer while giving out completely wrong information. It's mostly stupid **** like "Hey guys - I have it on good authority that Rochester will receive this beer this week. You should take Tuesday off - I bet it doesn't last an hour" and attaches a picture of a beer that is brewery-only in another state (that he didn't realize was brewery only). For some reason all of the people new to beer eat his schtick up. It shouldn't rub me the wrong way, but I'm an angry old man and it does.

Wait wait, it's a thing now to play hookie from work to buy beer?? Hell I felt guilty last year taking a half hour "walk" to buy a couple Pliny on Wednesday afternoons before they sold out.

Hat tip to hannydawg for alerting me to this glass on eBay. Neither of us had seen it before. Really heavy duty glass, maybe early 2000s? Testing it out with an April 2013 bottling. Amazingly dry, musty nose, light grassy/herbal notes. Taste is right where it needs to be and not sour in the least bit. Reaffirms once again that Lindemans makes a killer gueuze. #properglassware

Forgetfu can probably offer a more nuanced explanation than myself as he drank the same bottles, but a 2012 / 2015 Blabaer I was able to sample thanks to the generosity of a few folks from Sweden.

While I'm always grateful to try this beer, it does reaffirm why I don't try and trade for it. I personally enjoy St. Lam among others more than these at a fraction of the cost.

Is that a Blåbær magnum, or is it the perspective of this photo?

If these fluff piece beer writers could only get their facts straight, gueuze might stand a chance.
Are you saying this guy didnt do his research? The photo accompanying the description of the 3f OG is of a Golden blend. Those are the same are they not? They both have oude geuze in the name

Yup, there's that. And the story of the name, told as fact, when it's a relatively unlikely reason for the name. The incorrect explanation of "oude". The incorrect (or at least significantly overstated) implication as to why sweetened lambics were produced. Mistakenly calling Cuvee Rene an Oude gueuze. But hey, it's a thousand words. Can't get em all right in a piece that long.

The problem is there is no one place to get all your lambic information. You have to piece it together through a lot of obscure articles and hearsay.

When my jet-lagged self woke up at 4AM and was struggling to get back to sleep, a random-ass thought occurred to me: would it make sense to start a lambic-focused wiki (or wiki-like thing)? There are clearly a lot of people out there who know a lot about these beers, but there's no place where they can put that information down so that it's easily locatable for future reference. The various beer databases could kinda-sorta work, but you'd want something that's generally editable so it can keep changing as new stuff comes up, and I can see wiki sections being useful (plus there are things like glassware, events, etc that wouldn't be in there at all).

Anyway, no idea if this really makes sense, but it could be neat.

Agree. Someone should take that kind of project on.
