We reached out to Hanssens through a contact at HORAL about the Oude Kriek Handgeplukte Schaerbeekse Krieken release that happened initially for Toer de Geuze 2015 and this is the (translated) response:



I didn't quite know that Hanssens Scarenbecca was for U.S. only. So, essentially you can think of Hanssens Oude Kriek and Oude Schaerbeekse Kriek as you would 3F Oude Kriek and Schaerbeekse Kriek.

You can also think of the Oude Schaerbeekse as really delicious.

By the way have there been continual bottlings of this or just the initial one that was released around TdG?
 
How's Mure? Just picked up a 750 and not expecting to run into another, not sure if I should pop ASAP or give it a few years...

I had mine about a month ago and it was flat like this round of framboos. Could of used more funk for me as well.
 
i thought it could use a little more funk but it was damn ******* good when i had it last week. fresh ass fruit!
I feel the same way. Holding the rest of mine till at least a year old. I love Tilquins funk and it was lacking a bit at release. Though, I like my Fou most with around a year on it too.
 
Not looking for a fruit bomb, will wait for funky reviews, thanks gents

For those who are inclined, here's the original: De ' Scarrabecca ' was een 100% Schaarbeekse Kriekenlambiek. Dit was uitsluitend voor export naar US waar onze invoerder zelf een etiket aanbracht. De Schaarbeekse Kriek met ons eigen etiket is inderdaad gemengd met lambiek om hergisting op fles te krijgen. Deze zijn nu overal verkrijgbaar en vervangen momenteel onze Oude Kriek (met geel etiket).
Very interesting! I was wondering the distinction exactly.

blckout20 shared Hanssens Oude Kriek Handgeplukte Schaerbeekse Krieken at Night of Great Thirst and then drank a growler of Scarenbecca from OEC on Friday with a few of us. Each was very enjoyable in its own right; the couple of us who had them both found them very distinct from one another. The Scarenbecca had an absolutely delicious smelling sweet cherry nose and a subtle touch of acetic acid that actually worked. The Oude Kriek Schaerbeekse was approaching Intense Red levels of fruit flavor.

The 'Scarrabecca' was a 100% Schaarbeekse Kriek Lambic. This was exclusively for export to the US, where our importer himself put in a label. The Schaerbeek Kriek with our own label is indeed mixed with lambic to get fermentation in the bottle. These are now widely available and for the moment replacing our Oude Kriek (yellow label).

So are the Scarrabecca 375s we see stateside made with 100% Schaarbeekse cherries?

I'm reading the quote from your Hanssens contact as saying the Scarrabeccas are made with 100% Schaarbeekse cherries and the Schaarbeekse Kriek Lambic is also 100% Schaarbeekse cherries but carbonated.

Things could may have changed since VDS published his book in 2012 (which is the reference on the site), and sadly Hanssens is really tough to get in touch with on a regular basis and we didn't get to visit them in June. With Schaerbeekse cherries I think it varies year to year how is available to the brewers/blenders and they make due with what they have either making a smaller batch or supplementing. So from year to year the Scarenbecca could be 100% or any other %, but it's on my list of things to ask them given the chance.
 
I need help determining a 91 or 93 bottle of Cantillon Gueuze. Can someone help me solve what year it is? Not my bottle so I'll have to ask the owner about any additional details.

1993 would have the year stamped on the cork. 1991 likely wouldn't.
 
I don't remember if this has been posted anywhere but....I got this from a Belgian.

"Armand De Belder told me that the harvest of Schaarbeekse kriek, failed for the third year in a row. So the krieken they are using are polish. The only brewery with Schaarbeekse is Hanssens at this moment."
 
So what's the general consensus on Prunes de Namur vs Quetsche? Have had Questche and enjoyed it but wasn't wowed. Pretty much the same?
