Is this where you follow up with the obligatory "send it to me for proper disposal" response?

Also cant tell if you are trolling or serious because im pretty sure pellicles are pretty common. What makes you say there "definitely should not be?"

No, please do not send to me for proper disposal. Unless you're misinterpreting what a pellicle is on there (I don't think you are), how many pellicles have you seen in bottles before? That's something that just shouldn't be occurring.

Hypothetically, it should be possible right? Pellicles form from bacterial interaction with unfermented sugar, and both of those are present in the bottle during bottle carbonation (admittedly, at very low concentrations normally), so although it is probably extremely unlikely, I'd be surprised if it was impossible (or even a problem)

I was under the impression it was from exposure to oxygen. So theoretically if the bottle seal was compromised that much you could get oxygen in the botitle and a pellicle could form but I've never heard of that before...

If you've got enough microbial activity that they form a pellicle then I'd expect that the bottle would explode. Even infected beers that are so overcarbed they turn completely to foam don't have pellicles...

Naw, pellicles form as a biofilm to protect against oxygen. If you see one in a bottle, there's probably oxygen getting thru the cork.

I've had pellicles develop in bottles of funky homebrew that I may or may not have bottled too early. Once they drop in the bottle though, I've never had any problems.

Alright fine, thank you for the correction but my point wasn't about their formation as much as the presence of one should be possible in the bottle and if it is as he described, which was a "pellicle line" and not an active, sitting pellicle, the bottle is probably still fine. Excessively acetic maybe, sure, but not some death bottle that should be disposed of immediately.
 
Just to echo that pellicles indicate nothing about carbonation level -- just oxygen and the presence of Brett and/or bacteria.

Im guessing most lambic brewers/blenders do not purge oxygen out of bottles at bottling time. All bottle conditioned geuze referments inside the bottle creating the potential for pellicle formation.

All homebrewed lambics, gueuze and wilds I have done have had pellicle's form while bottle conditioning. I assume they are formed due to the small amount of oxygen in the head space as I don't purge. They have never been affected negatively.
 
Admitted noob, I've never heard the word "pellicle" before today...I HAVE heard this rhyming word...

Damn my cloudberry source in Alaska said this year was **** for cloudberries. She only could come up with a hand full. Guess I'll have to wait again to make my soliel clone :(.

just ******** it and use something close.

i'd guess 1% of the population knows what cloudberries taste like. and half of them are full of ****.
