there's a shitload more cherries in lpk than regular kriek.

with that in mind, i prefer the bio kriek. but super fresh (<6 months) or not (~3 years). completely different beers at that gap though.

That was sort of what I was thinking as we were having it. Made me wonder if I should try the '15 I have. And it's not that the Cherry taste wasn't there, it was just not very pleasant.

Most 2013 and 2014 stuff I've had from Cantillon hasn't been that great, so I am not terribly interested in pulling the trigger on these.

But, I am definitely interested in seeing how quickly 117 bottles go when there is a 3 bottle limit.

Out of curiosity which offerings haven't you cared for? I found the '14 Bio Gueuze and RdG bottles I've had to be great, but of course it's all subjective.

I had a 375ml of 2014 Bio Gueuze a little while ago, and it was in a weird place. And come to think of it, I am lumping in a lot of 2013 offerings that I thought were 2014. The 2013 RdG and Fou Foune I had were below earlier vintages I've had.

I can't remember if the Vigneronne I had a few months ago was 2013 or 2014.

I think I said this before in this thread, but I have gotten a lot of plastic-y, overly cheesy funk in recent Cantillon offerings. It is not "bright" like 3F or Tilquin. Sort of the opposite, if that makes sense. Could just be something I am sensitive to, I guess.

I have had bottles of '14 and '15 Kriek and RdG as well as '13 and '14 Fou that were off--low acidity, low fruitiness, and a lot of weird bitterness almost like Iris with just a little fruit added (but not in a good way). Those bottles were drinkable, but less good than almost any other lambic on the market.

I've also had a smaller number of RdG and Kriek bottles from the last year or so that were excellent. And the late 2014 St. Lam bottling was just fine.
 
Down to limit 2 these days and already gone. Didn't need to start a box anyway.

think it was because they only had about ~35 listed when it went up vs over 100 gueuze. could be wrong, but think it'll be 3 again if they get larger quantities in
 
Does anyone know what weight Etre uses to calculate shipping rates?

The upper portion of the pictures shows 8.94 lbs but the zone rate calculation shows 10.28 lbs. I figure its the 10.28 lbs but wanted to see if anyone else knew.

It's the second. The first is the bottle weight, the bottom is the shipping weight which includes packing materials

I have a partial box of Fantome waiting to be topped off and came here to read opinions on the 2014 bio loon. I appreciate the heads up. Seeing you mention plastic throws a red flag for me as I greatly dislike that. However, lambic being lambic that probably isnt the case with all the bottles and even if it is, by the time I open said bottles in X years who knows what place they will be in then.

TL;DR - any other '14 bio opinions? Was gonna say F it and just buy fresh 3F/Girardin but **** if those arnt out of stock or low in inventory.
 
So, just a random observation for consideration/discussion.

I was cleaning my cellar last night boxing up lambic to be relocated. I found a bottle of '09 girardin that I placed upright on a shelf and it has sat undisturbed for the past 5 years. Looking at the bottle closely, you can see some evaporation has taken place. The current liquid level on the bottle is a solid inch lower than the line where the pellicle formed and stuck to the glass initially.

I dont believe laying down bottles is any better than storing them upright but I found this to be interesting enough to share. Especially since my cellar is not dry, it is humid enough that corks drying out should not be an issue. Now im just left wondering if the bottle was on it's side this entire time, would the evaporation have been the same amount or possibly less/more.

The two bottles of '14 Bio Gueuze I've opened have been great, so much so I ordered a bunch more the last time 750s hit biab a few months back. I've also enjoyed '14 RdG about as much as any framboise short of LPF.

Pretty sure there should not be a pellicle inside a bottle of lambic...
 
Yeah... there definitely should not be.
Is this where you follow up with the obligatory "send it to me for proper disposal" response?

Also cant tell if you are trolling or serious because im pretty sure pellicles are pretty common. What makes you say there "definitely should not be?"
