had framboos last night for the first time in a few years, maaan has it improved. becoming more sour, less bandaid and less boring.

also last night, we had a 1979 cantillon gueuze. the amount of old dank rotten basement was pretty astonishing. i think this bottle was buried underground it smelled so bad. taste was better though, pretty simple and straight forward.

I was nodding approvingly until you mentioned the brussels sprouts

who does that

They are en vogue in the US right now, pretty much every upscale trendy restaurant has them on the menu.
Brussel sprouts are the ****. Boil for a few minutes to soften, pan sear in some bacon grease with sea salt and black pepper, add fresh chopped bacon, add fresh parmesean at the end. So damn good.

I count this as on topic becausr they are BRUSSEL sprouts.

BRUSSELS.
They are en vogue in the US right now, pretty much every upscale trendy restaurant has them on the menu. Also they are delicious.
If you cook them right, yeah they are. But they can be pretty bad too.

Well, I would first recommend just taking the foil off. Moisture tends to get under there and rust the cap to all hell. In fact, I would ask him to remove that just to check on the condition before trading. Every time I get a bottle w/ foil on I remove it first and then if it's ok, I loosely put it back on. Plus if he takes the foil off he can check the cork date on it. And if you want to know if it's a US bottle or not, just ask him to see if there's a Shelton import label as the back label.
Didn't know that about the foil, thanks for the advice. I guess I liked the idea of having the foil still on so i was looking for other ways to determine the date. Oh well.

I don't know why you guys keep calling American mini cabbages Brussel Sprouts. Everyone knows Brussel Sprouts can only be grown in the Senne Valley.

FYI: Should brussels sproutsc come up in real life when I'm surrounded by beer geeks, I'm stealing that bit and pretending it's mine.
