Draft Fou on the way home? Yes please

I don't know if it's a true distinction, but today's release was the lambic d'aunis label, no? On ratebeer for the lambic d'aunis (bold for the distinction they mention which I don't see on lambic.info):
COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In collaboration with Les Vins Contés. Brewed with the pinot d’aunis grape, but not dry hopped like the previous batches. (Plus alcohol volume of 6.5%) Released januari 2016

That legit?

We don't/can't rely on the RateBeer database to provide any sort of accurate information, so we haven't confirmed one way or another yet about the dry hopping for this batch. It's on the list of questions to ask Jean though next time we talk to him.

People still rely on the RateBeer database?

This got confirmed by a lot of lambic geeks who are close to Jean yesterday.

Holy **** people are trading Aunis like it's the second coming of DQ. I actually turned a fourth ticket down from someone...

Yeah I've had both the recent batches of this beer at the brewery (at least I think they were two different batches) and neither is as good as any batch of St Lam, IMO. This kind of experience makes me glad I haven't spent much time or $ trying to track down super whales. Tickers gonna tick I guess.

Agree. I might prefer the Zelige to st Lam, but Aunis is definitely not as good.

De gustibus et coloribus... Aunis and 1996 geuze were the clear highlights of Quintessence for me. La vie est belge close behind those 2.
La Vie est Belge was the worst of the day for me. I feel like I'm the only one but I had two glasses and it was just too sweet and nutty for me. 96, 234 magnum, asperule and zelige were my highlights. I got a blend of 96 and 234 which was very good as well

Asperule was great as well but felt like zelige would be a lot better with some more age on it. 234 magnum was great as well but probably would have liked it a lot better if I didn't drink it right after the 96.

I really liked La Vie est Belge but 2 pours were enough. I wouldn't want a whole bottle of it. Riesling was my least favorite.

I liked Riesling slightly more than Vie Belge but it was definitely not up to par, especially compared to the Vig I had just before it. What did you think of the Spaniards?

I'm not the biggest fan. I had a couple of their beers at Leuven Innovation Beer Festival last year and maybe they are good under a Spanish sun but not compared to any of the Cantillon offerings. Kumquat and Barrico blend no 1 were okay but also not more than that.

It doesn't match up with all the Cantillon mentioned in the past few posts...

But the 2015 batch of Doesjel is spectacular. Thin wisp of carb at the top, but overall pretty flat (yes I know. Only saying it because there were reports of carbonated bottles). Wish I ordered 18.

Vin Jaune (la vie est Belge) I thought was the highlight, I've had it several times and just love this beer, oaky, nutty amazingness! 2011 2,3,4 mag was great, 96 was ok, asperule was not good, couple years ago it was nice, the other day it was like broccoli water.
Recent batches of gcb and csg were great, Spanish beers were not good:(

Amazing event

I can confirm that Jean stopped dry-hopping the Pineau d'Aunis after the second batch (the Zwanze 2011). I know it has been rebrewed at least twice since then (because i've seen the grapes arriving at the brewery). The recent bottling under name "lambic d'Aunis" is the same batch as the previous yellow label that was available for on-site consumption under name "pineau d'Aunis". So, this one too was not dry-hopped.

For me the highlights were the lambic d'Aunis (a long time favorite), la Vie est Belge (which is not as good as the other Vin jaune gueuze though, which is far more subtle!), the 1996 which has held up wonderfully and the Aspérule (which is the only one which was new for me, so novelty might play a role here!) which I found to be far better than the Mamouche.
Zelige had well improved since the Vini Birre Ribelli, but it's so bold and strong that it certainly need more time to mellow (yet the food paring with this one was perfect!)
The Spanish were not bad, but they didn't really match with all the lambic we drank, imho.
All in all, an awesome day!
